BT cancellation fee

I just cancelled BT sport and after I spoke to a guy from customer service who told me that's fine and sorry to be loosing me I then got an email stating I will have to pay £115 cancellation fee, so when I called back I was told this because i'm in a contract but I wasn't told I would have to pay when I called to cancel so do I have to pay as I wasn't made aware there was a fee?

If you are subject to a contract then yes, you will be liable to pay. You can continue with the remainder of the contract if you wish.
  • I was not told in the call there was a fee to pay nor that I was in a contract I assumed I was on a rolling 30 day contract when I signed up. if I was contracted for 12 months then I should have been told that and that there was a fee to pay for cancellation but I was not told that just that it was all cancelled and have a good day.

What matters is what you were told when you took out the product. You shouldn't assume anything, you need to check the relevant terms and conditions on the website or any other communication you received at the time.

What exactly are you cancelling, BT Sport and BT broadband, or keeping BT broadband and just removing BT Sport, or do you not have BT broadband and have BT Sport as a stand a lone product on the Sky TV platform ?....are you sure the charge is just for BT Sport

Very few telcoms contracts are 30 day minimum term, 12m or 18m is the norm. 'Just assuming' does not void your minimum term, it's up to you to check the details before you sign up. You'll have to pay the ETC or see out the remainder of your minimum term.
It's not a cancellation fee, it's an ETC because you are asking to break your contract.
