I'd recommend both. Cardio is great for general fitness and weight loss, but if you incorporate weights, it helps build muscle, which in turn burns more calories.
I terms on time, it depends on your goals. I do an hour each day 4/5 days a week on weights followed by 30 minutes cardio. Hit different parts of the body each day, to allow recovery and try and not train more than 2 days in a row.
My schedule
Monday: chest
Tuesday: back
Wednesday: rest day
Thursday: shoulders
Friday: legs
Saturday: arms (if I have time)
Sunday: rest day0 -
When you say weight loss.
Do you mean fat loss? If yes, do both0 -
Diet diet and errrrrm diet
If your feeling tired all the time address a few things
a) are you getting adequate sleep each night
b) are you eating sufficient calories
c) is your training appropriate for your physique goals
personally i dont know you from adam my advice down load my fitness pal on your phone programme into it what you have eaten the last 24-48 hours and check your calorie content
i dont do any cardio bar jogging home from work 1-2 times a week i keep myself lean through dietdebts 16550

If your primary objective is to lose weight... eat less.0

As others have said, a mixture of both is best. Lifting weights aids metabolic processes that are involved in lipolysis and as someone pointed out above - bigger muscles burn more calories.
However, quickest gains (or losses) are made through diet. Personally I skewed my carb : protein ratio towards the latter. Essentially more beef/chicken/protein shakes, less pasta, rice, bread, and sugary treats. Except for big workout days - like 4 hour bike rides. Then you can eat whatever you like0 -

Diet is most important but then weights, you will continue to burn calories after lifting (stops once you stop with cardio), will gain muscle which will increase metabolism and it's way more fun! I've lost all of mine through pretty much just weights alone (only cardio was 1-2x a week swimming at a slow pace just for fun months and months back, but not now)
Good luck!0 -
I'm always hearing and being told that a good diet and weights is the way forward :-)
I am struggling with cardio at the moment as I'm so tired after work, so I'm thinking about just focusing on weights alone and then going for walks on the weekend now it's warming up.0
