Does anyone know whether motorway services are generally open on Easter Sunday? I ask because along with Christmas Day, it's the only day that statutory retail restrictions apply.

Is there a general rule or should I be planning and ringing ahead today? I have a long but unavoidable journey to make tomorrow.

  • They usually are, some are open Boxing Day but I think they only close on Christmas Day.
  • I found the following site which says that, by law, Motorway Service Areas have to always be open for food, toilets and fuel.

So it looks as if some, if not all, facilities will be open at any given Service Area (even if the experience is less fine dining and more greasy spoon).

    Good luck with your trip!

But, of course, if you want value for money, don't go near m'way services. In the unlikely event that your journey really does involve nothing but motorway for further than the full-tank range of your car, it's not hard to plan in advance to leave the m'way and head for a filling station a mile or two off a junction.

Where are you going from and to, roughly?

Is that on the road out of Norwich towards airport?

I remember the comments from my ex, regarding just how much her daughter would love that stretch of road...about three McDonalds, a Burger King and whatever the other fastfood places were all there within afew hundred metres.

Plus the big Indian restaurant on the roundabout at the top of the hill!!

I've yet to see motorway services even closed on Christmas Day.

It may not be a case of wanting a Big Mac but maybe hot food. You obviously never work Christmas Day.

I would rather go hungry than eat a Big Mac.
