Land Registry Privatisation.

As an ex civil servant - my cynical take on why this is being discussed again would be "To keep the employees living on the edge of their nerves wondering...and as a weapon to use to bludgeon them into accepting paycuts and/or too high a pressure of work as the 'price to pay' for the Government graciously agreeing they don't get privatised".
The way things work in the civil service these days - it's sometimes the case that some grades get "hung out to dry" as sacrificial lambs - whilst the rest retain a relative degree of protection (ie remain in the public sector).
EDIT; I'm sure the Land Registry employees that come on MSE will be reading this thread with interest - and just dying to click the "Thanks" button in response to posts on it - but won't dare courtesy of the way many civil servants "have The Fear" put in them these days.0 -

According to the article, this has been announced as a policy and 'not just being discussed again'.0 -

We tend to shy away from the 'Thanks' button unless someone is backing up or supporting a previous post made by us in response to an OP.
We, like many other organisations, monitor social media/www as a whole so will invariably be aware of specific threads, including this one re privatisation.
There is nothing we would usually look to comment on and of course with this specific subject the matter is 'out there' for consultation. And I guess the only thing we would think to 'Thank' would be the fact that people are commenting and sharing their thoughts be they positive/negative/neutral
I don't think any of us would be fearful of saying Thanks though or indeed commenting if we felt it was appropriate to do so as a Land Registry employee.“Official Company Representative
I am the official company representative of Land Registry. MSE has given permission for me to post in response to queries about the company, so that I can help solve issues. You can see my name on the companies with permission to post list. I am not allowed to tout for business at all. If you believe I am please report it to forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com This does NOT imply any form of approval of my company or its products by MSE"0 -

I would expect any employee of any organisation - public sector or private sector - to steer well clear of 'thankng' contentious or disloyal posts about their employer, if that's what you mean.
In fact, I would expect a private sector company to come down much harder on it's employees than the public sector, for doing that.
(e.g. Over on the phones and TV board - can you imagine a Teleoms co rep would 'thank' a contentious post about their employer?)0 -
The word on the streets is that offices will close. Apparently there are "strategic offices" and there are offices that aren't. Not sure how this fits in with the amount of overtime currently being offered and the delays due to lack of staff.0

Wouldnt surprise me....as thats how the Government tends to function/what they've done to other Civil Service Departments.
Then fewer people will be pushed like mad to produce as much work as the former (higher) number of staff had to do. Which will quickly result in staff being told to "cut corners" and skate through doing their job to the lowest possible standard and staff being told off for actually trying to be helpful/stick to the public service ethos of trying to actually help the public. Been there....done that...and that's not to forget the "sacrificial lambs" of trying to get shot of the lowest grade/s (whether by farming them out to be privatised or just abolishing the grade).0
