Paid both old and new supplier

Options
Hi there

I switched to BG using the MSE energy club.

I've just seen both old and new supplier have taken a DD payment in the same month. Is this correct? And if not how can I get to the bottom of it, how do I know who I owe for that month and who I don't?

Any help appreciated!

Hi. Welcome to the forum. Yes paying two suppliers when a switch has been initiated is normal as it takes a few weeks for the behind-the -scenes industry processes to catch up. The important point is that you will not pay both suppliers for the same energy. The meter readings that you passed to BG will be verified by a third party and then passed to both suppliers to use as your opening and closing readings. If you know that you are in credit with your old supplier and you know that BG has actually taken over the supply, then give your old supplier a call and say that you would like to cancel your DD mandate with your Bank.

If you owe your old supplier money, then the DD payment will be used to reduce the amount of your final bill.

When you change supplier you will receive a final bill from the old supplier and a bill from the new supplier. Check the meter readings used on the final bill of the outgoing supplier match the start readings of the new supplier (also check the period the bills cover - they should stop/start on the same day, your actual switch day)
As long as the above is correct, you've only paid once for the specific supply :)

Yes you may get a DD twice in the same month ... and you may even then still get a demand for yet more money you owe the old supplier once they calculate the final bill.

Any overpayment will be owed to you.
