MacAir to MacBookPro

I'm changing from MacAir to a MacBookPro. What is the best way to transfer everything from my MA to the new MBP.

I literally want to keep everything I have on the MA, including emails, documents & Football Manager games :D if that's possible.

I do have an external harddrive (TimeMachine) that I could use but some google searches say the setup assistant is better.

Anyone done this themselves?

I've used Time Machine for this and have found it excellent. You literally pick up where you left off from. It could take a while, of course, depending on how much data you have, whereas the setup assistant may be more focused on your documents and stuff, I guess you might lose your progress on Football Manager, for example.

Don't know if it would work but could you not store your football manager games in iCloud.

Thanks. I've just started it with Migration Assistant which was literally the first screen on the new MBP.

My only error was not checking I could use Ethernet to connect them.....I'd overlooked the Air not having a port! Still it's doing it via WIFI but says 12 hours. I will just have to wait as I don't have a Firewire cable to do it.

I will hopefully have everything there but if not I won't wipe the Air for a bit to see if I can utilise the cloud or TimeMachine to backup the FM games.

Out of interest why are you changing? I am looking to buy and wonder if the Pro is worth the extra?

Pro is better in almost every way. Retina screen, more powerful, much better value - Air has one thing going for it - size (OK, and weight).

Thats what I thought, just got the Macbook retina pro, £707 from refurbished Apple as I can claim the VAT back. Just finishing setting it up and this is my first post with it!
So much is similar but better than my old 2008 Macbook and of course it is much lighter due to flash storage and no DVD drive.
