Hello folks,
I know this a forum about domestic energy, but I've searched for answers to a simple question about business electricity, and all I get is comparison sites.
Anyone know what is tarif 0051, and why any business premises should want to be on it.
I am a church administrator, and have found out that the premises is on such a tariff, which is dual rate, 12 hours "day", and 12 hours "night".
There's nothing about our facilities that seems to justify this situation.
I repeatedly ask the energy provider to give us flat rates, I.e. same pence /kWh for both time periods, but of course every time anyone runs a price comparison, they always come out with a dual rate answer.
Any advice welcomed

OP - is this a Church of England building? If so contact Parish Buying who operate an energy basket.
12 / 12 does sound rather odd
Who are your present suppliers ?Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0 -
OP - who is your supplier - what are the rates - standing charge - annual consumption ?Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0

I am not really thinking about changing supplier, just trying to understand why we have a 12/12 set up.
Current supplier is Opus Energy. Broker that negotiates for us is makeitcheaper.com who have just renegotiated a deal which has different pence/kwh rates for day and night. Up to now we have been paying exc. VAT 13.53 per unit (both day and night) and standing charge of 27p per day. I could look up the new rates but the contract is signed now for another year so not about to change.
Annual consumption 6832 units of which 4648 day (7am to 7pm) and 2184 night (7pm to 7am)
I have found out that our meter is set to Standard Settlement Code 0051. But what I can't figure out is why.
I am aware of Parish Buying, but not inclined to go there at the moment.0 -
Presumably you have a substantial night usage seeing that its about 1/3 of your consumption.
I think you are paying a high premium for going through a broker.
I have a business premise with Opus and thats 11.41 plus 15p a day.
I also have a Church Hall through Parish Buying - 10.99 plus 19p a dayNever pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0 -
I was more worried about the 1/3rd usage being at night before I just discovered that is 7pm to 7am. When I thought it was midnight to 7am I was very worried.
Night time usage after about 10pm should be confined to fridge/freezer and CCTV but for some reason I haven't fathomed the water heater for hot water to the kitchen as always on. I think I will have to have a scrutinise of the meter one night and see what that's doing.
From July for 12 months we have 11.49 day time and 7.31 night time, with 33 per day standing charge.
The gas contract with CNG doesn't expire until 31/8/17 so it looks like a big rethink is due in about a year's time.0
