Travel advice for Bangkok

It was on news recently regarding a backpacker holiday maker got killed in Thailand. I checked on UK Government travel advice page about Thailand, but nothing mention anything about security. I would appreciate some advice from those who visited Thailand before. Thanks
I traveled to 87 countries and wish to visit more. Ask me anything about my holiday experience on 365pricefinder.

I am visiting Thailand right now, and have not had any trouble.
The only advice, as everywhere is to avoid fights. Thai people are very polite and obliging, but if you push them so hard that they lose their temper then anything can happen.0 -
I've never seen any problems whenever I've been in Thailand. There can be issues (whichever country you're visiting) but almost all trips are trouble free.
Things can get tense if there are political rallies or demonstrations so if you hear that there will be one (or if you unwittingly find one) then steer well clear.
Other than that, relax. You've paid a fair amount for your holiday so don't let these concerns spoil it. If this will be your first trip to Asia then it'll be a big culture shock but don't let it worry you.0 -
I wouldn't say Thailand is any more dangerous than any UK city.
As advised just make sure you're courteous and respectful at all times and you will be fine.0 -
If you worry about a single incident affecting one person then you'll never be able to travel to any other country, or indeed, step outside your own home.0

Your thread title specifically refers to Bangkok - not Thailand in general, however, I suspect that Bangkok will be the starting point of your trip.
Bangkok is in general a safe city, just like in any other destination in the world (including the UK), just keep your wits about you, don't overdo the jewelry and just be aware of scams and you will be fine.
It is a vibrant city that has had political unrest over the years, but avoid crowds and demonstrations and you should have no issues at all.
I have been to Bangkok many times and at only one time did I have an issue was with a taxi driver who attempted to rip me off....this was an isolated incident after taking hundreds of taxi trips in the city.

I am going in 3 weeks & am not concerned 1 bit , I follow a couple of ex-pats on twitter and they are always posting pics of bad stuff that happens but don't bother me"If I know I'm going crazy, I must not be insane"0

Just be prepared to search everything after you go to a certain place, google what to ride and the map. Lots of locals don't really speak English. I had this experience that I asked the receptionist of the mall to write in Thai language the address of my hotel because lots of taxi drivers did not understand it in English alphabet.0

Fun city. I wouldn't say it's really unsafe, though there is plenty of security too (metal detectors at some malls etc). Use common sense. Carry a copy of your passport, and also get your hotel name written in Thai if you plan to use taxis. The skytrain is great. Boats can be useful too.
For anyone looking for a similar-ish city to try out, we were recently in Ho Chi Minh City and loved it!0 -

It's better to pick up your hotel's card when you check-in, in fact pick up 3 or 4. The card will have the hotel's name and address written in Thai, and have the phone number on it.
On the photocopy of your passport it's not a bad idea to write your blood-group.0 -
