Replaced Heating, Used Less Gas

For anyone interested.

A year ago I replaced my warm air heating and HWC with a combi and radiators.

I have used 13,578 kWh of gas in 366 days, the year before I used 16,851 kWh of gas after installing cavity wall insulation, before that I was using between 23,000 and 18,000 kWh of gas per year for the past 22 years depending on how cold it was.

This is for heating on from 07:30 to 23:30 every day, controlled by a room thermostat set to 21 C, though in the summer months the thermostat was set at 15 C and the heating never came on at that setting.

From 10th Oct 2015 to 21st March 2016 I used 9567 kWh of gas.

Which gives me a saving of at least 19.4% at my gas prices just over £100 over the year and a 17.5% saving between those 2 dates.

However these figures are not entirely true as my warm air heating had 2 pilot lights, one using 1095 kWh and the other 810 kWh, when the heating was on.

Still I have calculated that my new heating system will be repaid by the savings in about 60 years if it lasts that long.

And I have got rid of SG's £250 a year maintenance contract and filled in the almighty ventilation hole they made me have.

Also a quick question for those who have their heating timed from 07:00 to 08:00 and 17:00 to 22:00, those who work and have their heating off during the day, how much gas are you using compared to me having my heating on all day?
over 73 but not over the hill.

You are forgetting one crucial factor-the winter of 2015/16 was much milder than 2014/15, so most people's kWh usage will have been lower as a consequence. My own DD has just been dropped by around 20% this week, primarily as a result of lower winter consumption, and a slightly cheaper tariff change.

Yeah, my consumption has dropped by nearly 50% this winter.

My gas DD has been lowered from £17/M to £10/M.

Do you really want to know?....And the heating has been on all day at 19/20 instead of 21 and turned down to 16 at night.

    Let me get the bill....

    Units used 58 = 649.15 KWh (kilowatt-hrs) used
    28/10/15 to 15/01/16 Consumption charge, 649.15 kWh x 2.941p = £19.09
    28/10/15 to 15/01/16 Standing charge, 80 days x 19.570p = £15.66

So...80 days costs 43 pence per day plus VAT (2p) less discounts (1p) which adds about 1p/day.

It's the cheapest winter gas bill I've ever had and that's even including gas used for hot water and cooking.
    :footie:
:p Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S) :p Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money. :p

I have had warm air for over 44 years but the units we have had for the last 25 deliver a constant heat rather than the units of old. I did look at going the radiator route when a replacement was needed 6 years ago but after all this time it would have meant that some furniture would have to go.
I only pay £150 a year to an independent for a service plan but in 28 years have never needed to call them.
But since my last replacement more efficient condensing units are available and from what I understand the outside air grill is not needed.
So the next time (about 14 years time !) I will go for a J&S WarmCair high efficiency condensing warm air unit.

Mmm, I would also be a happyMJ if I only used 8kWh per day over 80 days in the middle of winter.
