arranged odd usage natwest

Hello
I am with natwest. This month they charged me £6 arranged overdraft charge but I wasnt overdrawn last month. I was overdrawn the month before but paid £6 last month for it. Are they charging me £6 every month whether I was overdrawn or not as this happened before? I go over most months unfortunately not more than maybe £50.. Thanks

Normally, banks notify you in advance about charges and the date they will be debited from your account.
Can it be that last month you paid £6 for getting overdrawn earlier?

There have to be notices of charges as separate letters (or in the statements?).

I have no idea. I dont get notice except how much interest they will charge as far as I remember. Also I thought if you clear your overdraft in 24 hours you dont get charged. My husband usually trasfer money into mine if we see I was overdrawn. But I still get charged that £6.

Usually it's the same day, not 24 hours.

    Re the notice, see http://personal.natwest.com/personal/current-accounts/rates-and-charges/current-account-rates-and-charges-after-12-october-2015.html
How and when charges will be applied
At the end of your charging period we will pre-notify you of any charges and interest due. This will be sent with your statement. We will then debit your account automatically at close of business on the date specified within the notification. This is normally 21 days later.

If your husband has enough money available to transfer to take you out of overdraft why doesn't he just transfer before you go into your overdraft, then you wouldn't pay any charges?

To stop compulsive spending and keep it under control?
I am not implying that this is the case, but some people can't stop spending until they get into red.

Lol I dont think he will give me money unless I was overdrawn. We both work full time and we have seperate accounts. Although he pay for the mortgage and I pay everything else which is usually more than our mortgage but then I earn more than him.
  • was the overdraft cleared before the end of the month, or did it carry over 1-2 days into the following month? that could explain the 2 £6 charges

Then the answer is for you to exercise more control over your spending.
