Delivery of furniture

Hi there,

Please can someone recommend a cost-effective AND reliable delivery service for purchasing of furniture off eBay? There is a lot of stuff I would like to purchase, but generally in London and I live in Newcastle.

Regards,

Rob.

I would be surprised if many sellers would allow you to send a courier on a collection only item, I certainly wouldn't. However, assuming seller agrees (and obviously you need to check before you bid) then you are probably looking at a man with a van sort of place. There are unlikely to be many couriers who will collect furniture with no packing .

You could try the web site Shiply. This is likely to be the most cost effective as the drivers fit you in on other jobs / routes. However, it's not guaranteed you'll find someone on there the day you need and the price is flexible.

Hire a van and collect it if its worthwhile?

I bought a dining table and chairs for 99p because its in the middle of nowhere and not worth a lot of money.

Anyvan.com is very useful for this sort of item, but a lot of sellers who are savvy, will not accept paypal payment for the item and then have someone collect it - it makes a seller vulnerable to fraudulent claims of non-delivery which Paypal always seems to find in favour of the buyer..........crazy though it may seem.

Agree with the above recommending shiply.com Guessing there is quite a bit of traffic between London and Newcastle so bound to find someone who has space or is going your way empty.
