Good bye Kalixa; hello KiTTi

Options
I've had a Kalixa card for a while as a back up to my back up travel card. Fortunately I've never had to use it as such.

I've received an email from them:
After five years of operation, Kalixa Payments Group has taken the strategic decision to close the Kalixa Pay programme; as a result your account will be closed. We are writing to all our customers to explain what this decision means for them.

[...]

Now for the good news! All Kalixa Pay customers are offered the chance to move over to KiTTi at no extra cost. KiTTi is an account designed for groups created by Kalixa and Santander. Great if you want an easy way to manage your flat fund, coffee club or holiday kitty.

KiTTi is aimed at a totally different type of customer, and seems to be a solution looking for a problem to solve.

A fee of 35p each time a payment is made into KiTTi. Wow.

Gutted as the card was free from a moneysupermarket link and its ideal for buying from those websites that you dont really trust giving my proper card details to.

I know a proper card will offer a safer transaction, but i dont want the hassle of having to cancel a card etc.

With the Kalixa they can only take the money i credited to purchase that one item.

    Shame its going...

The 35p fee is for ATM withdrawals.

Actually, if you want a free, electronic prepayed credit card for use in the uk, this would seem to work. Sending off a child to university with it as an emergency card etc. The ATMs and foreign fees aren't great but not terrible either.

I will be sorry to loose my Kalixa card - I only use it to taking money out abroad, but find that the exchange rates have been very good, easy to track transactions online, easy to load and to transfer between difference kalixa accounts (my husband has one too). I also like the idea that if I loose it, I can instantly transfer all the money on it to my husbands card. Any suggestions what to get in its place? I use my Post Office credit card for buying things abroad, but need something for taking out cash at an atm abroad. Thanks for your help

Revolut if you have an iPhone or Android phone, although there's a 2% fee for withdraws over £500 a month.

    Halifax Clarity credit card.

Metro Bank if you only want to withdraw Euros (or £).

    N&P Gold Classic current account.

That had put me off myself, However it appears that has now been removed and is now free to top up.
