Kitchen tap - new tap/part? Self-fix or plumber?

Hi all, hope you are well.
Unfortunately have a bit of a dodgy kitchen tap over the last couple of days. It's a mono mixer tap...a bit like this...

http://www.screwfix.com/p/swirl-essential-mono-mixer-kitchen-tap-chrome/94627

The issue is that the handle has detatched itself and will no longer fix on so it's a case of placing it back and trying to maintain a lack of weight on it to ensure it doesn't come off - if that makes sense?

Would fixing a new handle suffice or is it a new tap job?

Thanks in advance :)

Does your handle have a grub screw that requires an allen key? If it does, tighten the screw. If not, could you use Araldite?

Have a feel around the back of the handle and you might find a small hole, in which is a grub screw. This may have come loose, allowing your handle to fall off.
  • Hi, I see the new tap shown has compression fittings, if you go for a new tap make sure that the one you have now is compression fittings of the same size.
When I changed my mixer tap it was solder connections so if you do it yourself you will need a butane type blowlamp.

    No.

You just need compression fittings to join copper to copper.

Is it something milliput can fix? A teensy dab of it goes a long way, like arladite but in putty form, so great for this kind of job.

The small hole may be covered by a plastic cap which indicates hot and cold ( red/blue)

I had a new monoblock tap installed. It had "easy install" stickers all over the packaging but we are no good at diy so I got in my local plumber (very reliable). It took him over an hour to install it - when I pointed out the easy install stickers he just chuckled. "They all say that...."
