Houses with alarms don't get broken into unless specifically targeted. They will always pick the softest target. Stick a Yale wireless system in from Homebase for less than £80 n.. http://www.homebase.co.uk/en/homebaseuk/yale-6200-series-wireless-alarm

I use these in renovation projects regularly, we add an extra pir and remote control fobs (from screwfix who do an offer on the extras) and have a decent alarm system for under £150 fitted in half a day. Ask any scene of crimes guy - they never get called to a domestic burglary with a working alarm.
Mr Generous - Landlord for more than 10 years. Generous? - Possibly but sarcastic more likely.

Cool! Cheers mate, I'll be sure to get onto that if we end up in a place with no alarm

But if they are on camera, it means that they have already got in and your gear is down at Cash Convertors plus they have damaged the door and windows in the process. High quality locks are far more effective than any camera

If someone wants to get in to your house it wont matter what lock you have they will just smash a window and get in. You can't stop a determined thief but you can make them think twice about the target house. Security lights, cameras, stickers on windows saying that you have cameras, alarms etc all help. If your house is better protected than your neighbours then you wont be the one broken into.

You can only deter entry; don't ever think you can stop it.

With a cloud camera alerting you that something is wrong via your mobile phone, you can call the police while the crime is happening. The police love to catch people red handed as it saves them investigating and using more resource (i.e. to come round and take prints).

Buy two huge aluminium dog bowls and leave one outside the front door and one outside the back door.

    Cheap and surprisingly effective apparently.

Rather than replace the front door, just fit a London Bar. It will stop it being kicked in.

Cost is about £20 and you can easily fit it yourself. I put one on every house I ever rented (never bothered to ask permission and nobody ever said anything).

    That is pure genius!

...and would work well with this:
