Fire Stick and Kodi surround Sound

Is there any way of getting the content to play through my surround sound? I currently can only have it through stereo on the TV and not the surround sound which is linked up to the DVD player.

I have sky hdmi from sky box to HDMI 1
I have from HDMI 2 a switcher with DVD in HDMI 2 (1) and Fire Stick in HDMI 2 (2).

I have swapped the cable around so that the DVD is in HDMI 1 but no luck

no ability to play thru surround sound on a fire stick , I have kodi running on an intel nuc , with a short patch lead running to a pair of microlab solo amplified speakers and the sound is good

A 5.1 amp with HDMI inputs? A soundbar?
Either a model number or a description of the inputs would be useful.
Specifically, if the 'surround sound' has HDMI in and HDMI out, plug the Fire Stick into HDMI IN, and plug the HDMI OUT into an HDMI IN on the TV.
