Wednesday 23rd March - What small DFW things will you do today?

When we start out on the DFW trail we do loads of "big stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the gym.

But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free.

Examples could be hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending.

So be proud of those small steps, they really are important :money:

    Morning all
Well - I've made it to the end of another term with only a minor wobble in the middle. I am really looking forward to the next 2 weeks+ of not doing anything at all. I will have to bring a little bit of marking home but it shouldn't be too much.
One of our long term supply teachers is leaving today and HoD wants us all to go to Nand0s after school. I spoke to him yesterday and told him that as I have the kids with me I can't really afford it. I feel bad but I think he's coming round to the idea of finding somewhere a little bit cheaper. We'll see.
    So - today's list
    :D check banking and PAD
    :D read Martin's email
:D get Year 11 to mark my Year 7 books :p
:D sort out some marking to bring home over the holidays
    :D read Martin's email
    :D load of washing
:D maybe eat out after school
    :D full day of teaching
:D don't overdo it on chocolate eggs at work :o
    :D relax and don't stress
:D remind myself that it's almost the holidays
:D Try not to have the heating on later
Have a good day all :T

Morning all :hello: thanks for starting us off Cat yeah to last day of term :j

Boy, it's been a long morning already. Up for nearly 3 hours including a 45 tantrum about a dress (not me I hasten to add :rotfl:)

    Today will mainly look like:
No heating on this morning for the first time :j
Washing done overnight on 30 out in line
Working from home - no commute :j
Meals from stores, something in the slow cooker for tea
Check banking, pad, update sheet. Check surveys, FPL
Review March list, do at least one thing and also check what is doable before the end of the month, plan when I'm going to do the biggies - should have some time this weekend.
Quick shower, let hair dry naturally
Post a fleabay item. Try and list a couple more
Maybe call mortgage provider and kick off the new deal process if I have time.

Think that's about all, have a good day, check back later. :)

    Morning Nearly Easter Bunnies,
Today's list will be a bit of a rehash as I still have some outstanding things from yesterday, but who cares? Not me. Today is another day.
*Little bit of energy bill saving - Recharged gizmos overnight on cheap tariff, two baths from one lot of hot water, huge pile in the ironing basket but will only iron the stuff that really needs it & switch off for last couple of items.
*Free fitness. Went out for my walk & it was nice to have racked up nearly 6000 steps before my coffee break.
*Will be using the last of the rubber chicken to make chicken madras for dinner tonight. Think as i will be going to the trouble of making curry paste, getting all my spice jars out, I will make double quantity of sauce for the freezer. That'll be a 'free' effortless curry next time I have leftover roast meat to use.
*Tended veggie seedlings to see they'd survived their first night out in the cold wilds of the greenhouse. They had.
*Write meal plan for Easter weekend & following week. Despite payday being tomorrow, because of the BH, my new budget cycle doesn't start until March 27th, so we still have one final week's shopping from March's grocery budget. I didn't used to be as strict on this when I was first learning to budget, but I always ended up in the poo because I'd just end up having to use the next month's grocery budget money early, then the month after that, etc, so now I look at where pay-day (27th) falls, then count up how many 'shopping days' there are in that period, so I know if I am splitting the grocery budget over 4 or 5 shopping excursions. We have plenty of food in, so we should be ok. First 'shop' of April budget will not be until 1st/2nd April.
*Write shopping list. So far, it only has baking items on it..........Cake = major food group though :-)
*Ditch entertainment idea we were working on for forthcoming Family Day, as it would involve buying stuff when we have already bought small Easter gifts for adults & eggs for nephews, etc. They would have enjoyed it but I know they will be equally happy with a Jenga championship (free, apart from small prize).
*Finished an expensive scented candle last night (received as gift). Wicks gone, but lots of scented wax left, so have prised it out, broken it into chunks & will use it atop my oil/wax melt burner as there's plenty of fragrance left in it. The glass jar is lovely - big with a silver lid, so will keep that for when I need a nice jar for something.
*Iron dress for listing on ebay. Nice charity shop one, a bit tight, but have decided it's not a flattering style for me as it's quite high-necked which I don't think suits short people who are not exactly under-endowed in the boob department iyswim. Also iron Monsoon skirt I was given, but it doesn't look as nice on as I thought it would. I'm sure that will sell. Perhaps I'll just try it on again first.
*Knit. I'm really not getting on very fast with this project, which isn't very impressive, as it's for an order.
Right.......off to tackle that horrible ironing now. I'm telling myself I'm not allowed any lunch until it's all done & put away!
Big cheer-ups to all who are feeling low today. A bit of time off work, a pamper & some spring sunshine will be a much-needed tonic, I'm sure.

2026's challenges: 1) To rebuild our Emergency Fund to at least £5k.
    2) To read 50 books (12/50) 3) The Re-Shrinking of Foxgloves 8.1kg/30kg
Remember....if you have to put it on a credit card, extend your overdraft or take out a loan to buy whatever it is, you probably can't afford it, as that's not your money, it's somebody else's!
  • Hello again!

So my night last night was horrible, missed my train by seconds and then my next one got delayed so I by the time I got home I wasn't in the mood for going running. (nearly 2 hours to get home!) Still I managed to get the heating all sorted out and turned off minus a quick blast in the morning and evening although I may get the evening one turned off now too.

Here is my DFW list of tasks for the day ahead.

Free coffee from Mcdonald's as I have enough stickers to claim one

Use up breakfast cereal from my desk draw in work - Weetabix this morning.

Go for a walk on my lunch break and collect my jeans that have arrived in Dorothy Perkins (thank goodness! My current pair have a hole in them - cringe!)

Grab lunch from Mcdonald's I have a voucher for a £2 meal and I also have a free drink to claim as well. The bread was moldy so couldn't make sandwiches last night and tonight is going to be a late one in work so need a big lunch to keep me going. Leaves me £1 in my purse until payday tomorrow.

Drop my car over to my parents house so my Dad can take it to the garage tomorrow (fingers crossed it doesn't need anything fixed or it can still be done under warranty)

Have dinner at my parents house (saves me some money and food!)

Watch another few episodes of Game of Thrones.

    Debt-free and Proud!
    Hi All!

    One week until payday!

I washed my car tonight. It's nice the nights are getting lighter so I can do these kind of things again. In the winter months I usually run it through the car wash once a month to keep the thick off. I gave it a proper wash tonight by hand, saving myself a fiver. Next month I'll try and polish and wax it too.
Although it's starting to rust on the front wheel arches. I'm really not sure what to do about that. I plan to keep the car until it drives itself into the ground, which may potentially be a long time. I'm thinking once my debt is cleared and I have a bit of money saved, I think it may be worth getting the front wings resprayed/replaced. That will probably cost 2-300 quid, I'm guessing.

Grandma day today so just a quick post while GD is playing in the sink - mopping up will feature prominently on my list :rotfl:

Oops she is here demanding attention, so will have to say bye for now and pop back later!

Whew, she has gone home now - she has a horrible cough and cold, and is just at that awkward stage where she still really needs a daytime sleep but doesn't often have one... but she was happy all day despite that :) It was nice, so we spent most of the day outside, walking to the park and feeding the ducks both morning and afternoon :rotfl:

    MSE things today:
    Nothing spent :T
Came back from the park for ice cream for GD instead of buying one, cheaper and easier to clean up! She ate 4 wafers with it, which was quite a feat after eating most of the ducks' bread :rotfl:
HM meals from stores (OH is cooking tonight :T)
Heating off now - had it on for GD earlier, might light the wood burner though it is ok so far :)

And that is about it! More effort needed tomorrow, but looking after GD one day a week helps out DD and SiL, saving them a lot in childcare :)

((Hugs)) to those who are having a difficult time.

    Hi everyone
Quiet on here today - I hope everyone is ok. Thinking of you legomum and MTC :grouphug:

So pleased to have made it to Easter. I am determined to spend some time resting and recharging so that I am raring to go come 11th April. Just home - after a quick meal out after work to say goodbye to a couple of people who aren't returning after Easter. The kids are already hyper and I am exhausted - I feel like I've hit the wall a bit and crashed. Early night tonight and alarm off. :D:D:D

    So - today's list

Savvy Shopper! I've been Money Tipped!
    Hey All

Late one here. Haven't had a moment all day to get on. Thanks for starting us off CCl I do think it's annoying when people suggest things and you feel obliged to go out. Where did you go in the end?

Dawn you are a good to your daughter I am so impressed with all you do with DGD.

I was just wondering how CLF is? Haven't seen her check in lately. Hello if you are reading :)

Beautiful moose How annoying about your mouldy bread and crap train journey. Maybe take some crackers or crisp breads to work to keep as an emergency stash for future incidents?

Well I have a slight annoyance with a bill that I was planning to pay in a certain way (accountant) but due to 'issues' I'm going to have to rethink. It's kind of a #firstworldproblems situation as I have the money so nobodies dead but still annoying. Hey ho,will put my big girl knickers on and get on with it.

Not much to report really. But all good here.

    Night
