Bristow Sutor
Options
Hi There,
I have received a "Notice of enforcement" from Bristow Sutor. It says that I own money to York council from an unpaid parking ticket. It also says "warrant issued dated Nov 18, 2015"
The way that presents the Outstanding amount is:
Debt:£112
Interest:
Compliance stage fee: £75
Total amount: £422
This is the first letter that I am receiving. I was wondering how it is possible (112+75)=422. Have they added the visit fee already without even visiting yet the property?
Can I pay only the 112+75?
Do I need to send them letter as well about it? After paying?
Thanks,
Dinos

They will also have charged you, although it seems not to detail it on the notice you have received, a £235 "visit" fee, so the amount looks correct to me, providing they have actually visited. Was this a hand delivered letter? If so then the total is correct, and I wouldn't be surprised if they blamed a "clerical error" for the discrepancy.0

Hi Dinos
Yes Doris has hit the nail on the head - the fees look 100% correct to me (based on the same assumptions Doris made), it's just that their correspondence hasn't made this terribly clear to you. We deal with a lot of folk owing precisely this amount for parking tickets, strangely enough; £112 appears to be the going rate for Penalty Charge Notices once the costs of an Order for Recovery are added.
Of course, if you have only just received a Notice of Enforcement in the post and are able to settle the £187 promptly, you should be able to argue that the £235 enforcement fee is not applicable. Some enforcement firms are prone to jump the gun and add this fee on prematurely.
