My nan's in hospital (long slow walk to death) and is asking for egg custard. Mum and I don't know how to make one. Can anyone advise of a simple recipe that's traditional? We'd like to make her happy while we can.

    Thanks

Here's a link to Delia's recipe for custard tart. You can also just bake the custard mixture in a greased dish if you don't want to do the pastry. Kids like it with sliced bananas in.

    Hi skintchick,

I'm sorry to hear that your Nan is so ill. When my Gran was near the end the only food she wanted was a prawn sandwich.....and I spent ages trying to get them just the way she liked them.

We have a few threads on egg custard which might help you to make one for your Nan....I'm not sure if you want a recipe for custard tarts or just egg custard, so I've listed them both.

Thanks - apprentice tycoon's looks easy and what she wants, so we'll make that. She can only eat pureed food now so I guess it's a bit dull for her and although the hospital do their best it's not the same as home cooked.

Sadly tee pee, she will never be better, we are just waiting for her to die. It's so sad. But she tries so hard to be happy and positive. And all she wants from life is an egg custard. I'm sure there's a lesson in there somewhere.

christ that has just put my life in perspective, we live in our own little shell moaning about the smallest things, and in the case of your nan it is the smallest things which make her happy.

    God love her.
:hello: send her a wave from me.

    xx
