Metal U shape brackets to close gap in Garden door

Hi stupid question but here it goes...
I have a gap at the bottom of our garden gate that I want to close. I need it to be removable to avoid creating a trip hazard.
I was thinking of putting some sort of thin U shape bracket at two ends where I can just put a wooden plank.
Very silly question but what are these brackets called? I couldn't find it from my Google searches...

Probably a strirrup bracket, but I like Ruski's idea better (with some sort of latch to keep the plank against the gate).0
