Santander & EDF DD issue

Hi All,
I've run into a frustrating issue with Santander and EDF recently.
My Partner and I have set-up a joint 123 Account (to use as a house bills / Saving Account) and have started the process of moving direct debits across from my 123 Account.
So we have called EDF and gone though the process of moving the DD to the joint account , and I deleted the old DD from my account.
The money didn't go from the joint account, when we checked EDF said the DD was cancelled. So I thought OK, that's Santander telling EDF that the old DD drawn against my account was cancelled (chalk it up to experience and move on)
So we went though the process again of setting up the DD with EDF, and again the money didn't go from the account - again EDF saying that the DD had been cancelled.
Calling Santander I've been told that EDF are using the same reference on the DD (which is our EDF Account number) therefore Santander cannot process it as the reference is the same on the old (cancelled) DD on the old account.
Has anyone else had this issue (and how did you resolve it) or am I just unlucky?

Sorry, I can't help with your query.
I moved our EDF DD from Nationwide to Santander 123 on the phone in 2013 and it worked fine - however, I didn't cancel the old DD until the 1st payment had been taken from Santander.
I suspect that's where you've gone wrong.
I think all you can do now, is effectively start from scratch using the freephone number. Alternatively, try live chat when logged into your account to explain the issue?
Good luck0 -
Presumably your EDF account number has not changed - if this is the reference used for the DD, wouldn't Santander have to use it as well?0

I have moved 4 DDs over to other Santander accounts in the past couple of months. All use the same references and have had no problems with any of them.0

Edf and Santander 123 accounts here, also without issue since 2012. That said, I've never cancelled a direct debit!0

Sort it with edf. That's where the problem sits.0
