O/S Daily Tuesday 22 March 2016

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

Morning everyone

Birthday wishes to those celebrating a birthday, hope you have a great day x

Hugs and get well wishes to those that want/need them x

Now light, light thin cloud, still and frosty.

DH up and gone to work stupid stupid early. DS1 using up some more of his hols, so still in his pit. DS2 still in his pit, will wake him shortly so he can get ready for school.

Dinner last night was ravoli/tortellini in creamy tomato/mushroom sauce with a portion of chicken. Tonight’s dinner will be egg, bacon, sausage, hash browns, black pudding, mushrooms, beans and toast – not particularly healthy but reasonably quick – we have parents evening for DS2.

Work yesterday was nowhere near as busy as we’d expected but steady – so the day passed quickly. I was told by my supervisor yesterday that the vacant hours that were available still hadn’t all be filled – before I had my time off last week they were asking for staff to volunteer for extra hours Monday, Tuesday and Friday’s – I already work full days on Mondays and Tuesdays so couldn’t do those and wouldn’t volunteer for a Friday as I don’t work we can get away for long weekends without the need for me getting holiday from work – looks like others felt the same way as someone volunteered but wouldn’t do all day Friday – so I said I’d work extra on a Wednesday (I work until lunchtime normally) only at my local office as already there and until we close – if I couldn’t have it to suit me I wasn’t going to do it and they came straight back saying “yes” so temporarily I’m working 3 full days a week – not what I wanted but the extra money will be good, and in real terms in doesn’t really impact on us as we don’t have anything much planned in the middle of the week. I start the extra next week.

Keep safe and well x

Good morning, I'm just about to head off to work and get started before things get busy. Nothing to report, have no plans this week other than work, work, work.

Hope everyone has as good a day as possible

Well done on negotiating the hours nmlc, always good when you get what you want.

DW on, hoping it finishes before I leave for work - I'm fast running out of cups! Washing on the airer, put a small load through last night. It's damp outside same as yesterday but cleared up ok although no sunshine.

Haircut after work today then I'm going to collect a bedside cabinet from a Freegler, it should do nicely for DD when it's painted. Quite handy that it is in the same place as hairdresser.

We have an inspection at work this week so need to be on the ball! Have a good Tuesday. Take care. XX
  • Morning all. Some sunshine forecast for us, that will be most welcome.

DD is coming to pick me up at 8.30, after the school run, to take the remaining stuff over to the caravan and finally give it a good clean! Yesterday we got nowhere fast, just one setback after another. It was a stressful day to say the least! We needed a new gas cylinder before we could connect up, so mid afternoon, after sorting out numerous other problems, we finally drove over to Pateley Bridge to buy one. Came back, connected it up, and were met with an overpowering smell of gas. Turned it off, Mr TA examined the connections, hose, etc, to find the damned squirrels had chewed the hose. Apparently they do it to get a "high"!! It;s the second time, thanks to them, that we have had to replace one!

Hopefully all will go smoothly today as there can't be many things left to go wrong now! Need to pack myself a healthy low carb lunch now and leave something for Mr TA to warm up for his. He is going for his fortnightly bloods this morning, so I must remember to phone Liverpool so they can request the results. As his "secretary" these jobs are left to me!

Have a good day all (((HUGS))) to those wanting/needing them. My thoughts are with GERS. Take care xx

    Morning all,
DS and DDIL have just left to go home to Cumbria. Tried not to cry, but couldn't help myself:(. It's such a long way away.

Hopefully they will be back May/June. :T

Having a quiet day today. Just popping over the road to the shops.

    Have a good day all.

Well yesterday morning was a nightmare for/with DD2 & DGS, lets hope this morning is better, I doubt it very much as DD went back to work yesterday.

I managed 2 more rows of my blanket after work, the black border looks good but it's a bu&&er to work on in poor light.

I ordered some yarn to make a jacket each for DD1's twins, it's a small project I can take on holiday with me as I think there will be a lot of sitting around in the evenings.

    Have a good day everyone.

    Hugs Hester

    Morning everyone.

    Grey and damp outside again.

Life just goes on, still no date for the funeral from Melbourne so I just have to sit and wait. I've been putting together photos of my nephews life, as their first child my brother and his wife took photos galore so there are plenty of them. Found one of him and I at his christening in 1982 which shows a very youthful me and a toddler. So long ago, such high hopes too.

I've taken to cleaning the house like a maniac, restless energy bring transplanted! New steam mop was good on the bathroom floor though a tad wet- think I had set the steam too high - but the floor is clean. Kitchen floor today as half the garden muck is on it so it'll need a vacuuming first.

Hope all's well with your OH's blood test TA.

I wish everyone a good Tuesday.

Be gentle with yourself Gers, but remember all the good times as well <<hugs >>

Weather seems to have perked up a bit today,I am taking my DGS Ben to the cinema this morning ,we are off to see 'Spotlight' this morning then probably lunch somewhere.

DD did a viewing for a chap on Saturday It was his late father's house and his dad had lived there for over 60 years. The son was quite still upset although his Dad had passed away before Christmas.Apparently is a beautiful property, if a little sad and neglected looking at the moment .

She walked around with the chap and his wife and could see that underneath the neglect there was a gem of a place, very large garden that his Dad had spent years landscaping. After taking all the measurements and costing it for him she said
    'Can I ask you a question?'.He said Yes .
DD 'you really don't want to sell this place do you'

    Chap'No not really '

DD 'then don't, sell your own property, and bring this place back to life again'

She said she could see it was once a much loved family home with a huge garden.Very art deco inside and with slight updating it would be fabulous. She told the chap that she could get his asking price but what would happen was the house would be demolished, and new builds would replace it in the available land.

The man was so pleased he said 'you've made my mind up for me the thought of my Mum and Dads memories being torn down was upsetting me a bit' .

Tessa said take my card and when its done ask me round for a cuppa I'd love to see what you have done to bring the house back to life again.

The chap said 'bless you, won't you get told off for not persuading me to market it' .

'Yes' she said 'probably but I'm not bothered a beautiful house like this one was and can be again is more important than just another sale'

The chap said 'you are a very unusual estate agent Tessa'
She said 'Yes ,but I hate to see something as gorgeous as this house just knocked down for 4-5 rabbit hutch boxes to replace it.So she lost her comission, but they both were happy with the outcome.

She is really a very unusual estate agent and one who really cares about her customers, even if it meant losing a decent sale..When she does lettings she tries to match the property with the client She will put families near to schools and pensioners near to shops and buses etc.She always thinks when she does a valuation or viewing what sort of people would want to live here, and would I want to live in the area :):):) She will never make a fortune but she has an amazing customer base and is very good at sorting out folks problems for them.

DGS Ben has to go back to Uni on Friday as his boss at his part time job in Norwich is desperate for him to be back at work ,so I shall be driving him up there on Friday morning. He's had a good fortnight off and he has exams in May so he will be hitting the books when he's not at work.

Right time for a cuppa I think.Hope everyone has a good day what ever they are doing

    Cheers chums

    Morning everyone,

Cold, bright and frosty here, lovely start to the day.

Back to work after having yesterday off, but only one day and then off again tomorrow.

We had such a nice evening last night, SIL did a big pot of chilli and sides, we all sat around eating and chatting, with loads of memories of our darling man. It's a big year for the family with my eldest niece getting married, she has asked her sister to walk her down the aisle which is fabulous but will ensure waterproof mascara is in abundance.
Did manage to get some paperwork done in the morning, am trying to amalgamate some small pensions so time spent on phone and computer checking on where money will be best put to use.

TA - hope you have a better day.
Jackie - loved that story of the man selling his parents home, good for your daughter to keep her integrity and not make it all about profit all the time.
    Gers - thinking of you m'dear x

Hope everyone has a good day, take care folks x
  • Morning ((((((((((hugs)))))))))if you need one. Thoughts this morning for the people of Brussels, news is coming in of more explosions at Metro stations as well as the one at the airport. It makes me angry that people are so cruel to each other. I dare not put my actual thoughts down, I would be next on the hit list.

A bit dull his morning, was going to wash the towels but OH tells me it's going to rain later. Will get another couple of blocks done for the quilt done. I still have not worked o how many patterned ones I need.
