Vauxhall Insignia clutch pedal advisory in 2013
Hi Guys,
I'm having problems with my clutch, looking back at past mot's an advisory was issued in 2013 on the clutch pedal.
I've been looking through the paperwork I got with the car and don't have the hard copy of any MOT's apart from the most recent MOT, is it possible to locate the MOT station that did the 2013 MOT using the reference number on the data via Gov.uk
What are the chances of the MOT station also holding details of the problem which raised an advisory, do mechanics have to document advisories? Or is it a case of 'we'll never know the exact cause of the advisory'

Checked online MOT history? Nothing listed about the advisory?
Not much on the pedal to fail except a worn rubber or an insecure pedal.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
Yeh I found the advisory on the clutch pedal in the gov.uk website, the advisory just says 'Advise Clutch pedal'
Thinking about it more, if it was a problem with the clutch pedal and effecting the ability to change gear would be an MOT fail wouldn't it?0 -

Nope. Clutch and gearbox are not testable items.0 -

Maybe not, however, they need to use the gearbox and clutch to move the vehicle so anything obvious that showed up would have to be noted as a faulty clutch or gearbox would make the car unroadworthy.I hate football and do wish people wouldn't keep talking about it like it's the most important thing in the world0 -

Technically, no they don't. A car can only fail an MOT on testable items, and theyre not testable. You could push a car onto the ramps and rollers, and as long as the engine runs for the emissions test, a non-working clutch and gearbox shouldn't fail the test; they could be noted as advisories, but then so could having an air freshener the tester didn't like the smell of, these days.0 -

If you do find the station then what?0 -

That was answered in the OP's last paragraph. He would ask them about the advisory (although they're not likely to remember it):What are the chances of the MOT station also holding details of the problem which raised an advisory, do mechanics have to document advisories? Or is it a case of 'we'll never know the exact cause of the advisory' ?0 -
Yeah I read that. I just couldn't see the point of it. I would suspect he has bought the car since 2013 and now has a problem with his clutch. He now wants to go back to the dealer and say the problem was there when he bought it and get them to put in a new clutch.0

Only likely advisory would be due to worn pedal rubber; surprised they weren't more specific. Otherwise it could have been engaging very high or low. They can advise on anything really that might be useful for the owner to know; I've had ones for slight oil leaks.0

I bought the car in September last year. I wanted to trace where the MOT was done so that I can try and determine what the advisory was for and if like i said in my original post, whether they had to document advisories or whether it was just a case of the tester noticed a small issue and made a note.
There's no intention whatsoever to try taking it back to the dealer for them to rectify. The single and only reason I wanted to check was to see if the problem was something that rears its ugly head every now and again.0
