santander 123 joint account query

Hi all,
am wanting to apply for santander 123 joint account as both me and wife have maxed our individual 123 accounts.
On the online application it asks for wife income etc but she now does not work [ill health] nor claims any benefit [long story] , so no income.
Cannot find anywhere in terms that both applicants must be in employment etc i order to qualify for this joint account.
She is registered as paying no tax on her interest so cannot really pretend she is earning by putting phantom salary in.
Anybody been in same position?

I don't remember there being any requirement for a salary as such, just for you to pay in a certain amount a month.

To be honest, as you're already current account holders I don't see there being any issues in trying to open up the account.

If you're really worried, why not just put her salary down as something small say 10k, that's still below the Tax threshold, and that plus what you have should more than satisfy any internal criterias.

I would not advocate this - it is called application fraud:cool:

OP have you read the T&C for this account?

There is no requirement for either or both of you to be in employment, pay in salary, or indeed any other form of income. The requirement is that you pay in at least £500 every month, which can't be from a Santander account in either of your names.

Be honest on the application form. Banks do realise that not everyone has a salary;)
  • Agree with Badger - dont falsify income.

OH got her SINGLE account with no income declared, no problem.

We haven't applied for a joint account as I already have two singles in my name from the days when that was allowed....;);)

Your wife does have an income. You said you have both maxed out your 123 accounts which means she is earning interest on the balance held in her account.
