American Express / Halifax payments

Anyone having problems paying American Express at the moment

On Saturday I iniated a faster payment from my Halifax current account to my American Express card.....using the same payment method that has been set up for the last year.

Normally when I make the payment it shows on my American Express online account within a couple of hours, yet as of this morning nothing is showing. Halifax confirm that the money has left my account and American Express confirm they haven't received the payment.

I wondered if something had got stuck in the system somewhere and about 3 pm today I sent a smaller amount. £1.34 as a test to see if it went through and as of yet nothing has appeared on my statement with American Express.

Any pointers here as to what's wrong.....

    A weekend payment can be treated as having been sent Monday.

    It doesn't have to reach its destination until the end of Tuesday.

    However of the 23 payments I've made to the card over the past year, all of them have reached the account on the same day. I could research further and find out if they are weekends

    I didn't wanna be piggy in the middle here and find American Express tell me to phone Halifax and then Halifax say go and chase American Express

    Amex use a 3rd party bank (Lloyds) to operate their clearing account therefore all payments will go Halifax > Lloyds Bank > Amex

    Please use your 15 digit American Express Card number as the reference.

    You'd probably have more luck with a clearing bank.

    All you need is something not working right along the chain to be shunted into "end of next working day" territory.

    If it's not there on Tuesday night* then you take it up with Halifax.

    *Some credit card accounts will credit the account Tuesday but it won't show online until the following day.
  • It appears all solved.

    The 2 payments I made both were credited on Monday evening, got 2 emails timed at 23.25
    But the payment on Saturday was still dated as Saturday on my statement, if you see what I mean

    Wonder if there was a blockage or something.
