i loans with ppi but they were taken out before 1997 - is it worth making a claim (i also do not have any of the loan details!)

Its not likely. If you have no details and they have no details it is brick wall time.
1997 is well before regulation too so even less chance.
You would also have to provide evidence to back up any miss selling complaint.
Time to move on......make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0
