hello
i was with british gas in 2013 and left them to move elsewhere. duting this time i was struggling financially and didnt pay the final bill and the account moved into 6 months arrears around august 2013. i have been making payments of £5 per month to them through a stepchange dmp since december 2013. so basically id like to know...
are they allowed to keep displaying the 6 payments late marker every month forever until the debt is cleared? or should they have defaulted me back in 2013?
is there anyway to get them to change this to a default?
any advice on the matter would be very much appreciated. thankyou.

Have a careful read of the info in this link to see whether you think what they have done is fair

I would also not that the older ICO guidelines that applied ta the time this first happened clearly state that
A record showing a series of payments as six months in arrears when this does not reflect the real payment history should not be used as an equivalent of a default.
If you thing what BG have done is unfair, complain in writing saying that if they refuse to amend the data, you will be taking them to the ombudsman that applies to them and reporting the matter to the ICO.Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB
