Plusnet lied

I've recently changed broadband from plusnet to Bt, and thought I'd check my bill.

My first problem was I only get online billing, but when my broadband changed over they cancelled all of my account so that I can't see my bills.

So I spent some of my valuable day off ringing them to find out what my bill was. The conversation went something like,
them "yes it's cancelled"
me "I know but I only get my bills online so how do I get my bill" them "you don't owe us anything"
me "but do you owe me anything"
them "no it's all ok"
me "well can I get a copy of my bill to see that" (It changed mid month)
Them "well ok I'll email you a copy"

So the bill arrives and sure enough they owe me £10.12.

So today (on my next day off) I've rang them again to ask when I will get my money. To be told they no longer have my payment details so within 30 days they will send a cheque, and surprisingly enough one hadn't yet been issued even though I left 10 days ago

Now I'm the tenacious sort who will harass companies for my money, but what really annoys me is how many people would have took the first lying piece of ***** word for it that they didn't owe anything.

I ended up getting my final DD payment reversed in order to recover money that Plusnet owed me after I ended my contract but didn't pay despite saying they would. They then took several months to realise that I still owed them some money for a few days of that final month and issued me with an itemised bill for the amount.

Like you found the closure of the online account made it difficult to be sure what was owed, but putting the onus back on them to get money from me made it a lot easier.
  • Don't talk to me about these idiots. I was in the Philippines when my UK family moved house and I tried to either transfer the service or to cancel. Plusnet have decided in their wisdom to only have support via phone and their excuse for no email support is 'emails can get lost'. Cobblers! I had weak internet in Asia so Skype didn't work and a mobile call would not have worked either. As they can only deal with the account holder I was stuck so the only way to get their attention was to cancel my dd. When they finally woke up I was threatened with a debt recovery company. I tried reinstating my debit card but this they didn't accept (idiots). All this carried on until finally a family member sent a cheque. We weren't on good terms that's why it took so long.

They really are a bunch of wallies.

You can get other people added to the account. Our PlusNet account is in my OH's name for the DD, but I was added online, so that if I need to speak to them, they will talk to me. Can't say I've had any problems with them, fortunately, but then I haven't left them (yet).
  • I am in a very similar boat. Switched from Plusnet over to BT on the same day my contract with them ended. I've been charged for a full month's BB and Line Rental despite the switch going relatively smoothly. They've refunded half of the £26.xx and when I rang up to see where the rest of the money was, they told me that my account hadn't been cancelled and it would 'get sorted'. I've had an email through to say my cancellation request will take place on the 31st but no mention of why they haven't refunded the remainder. I'll see if they're open tomorrow but it probably won't be until Tuesday when I can get through to them.

I had lots of trouble with them, glad I left.
