  • I joined online back in 2011 iirc, no sending of passport or certified copy was necessary. Everything is straightforward with First Direct.

if you are applying by form and want to go through the recommendation process, then that's not the typical 'online' application process that practically automates everything and checks your ID etc to verify you are who you say you are?

You're applying via a channel thats probaly under utilised, so that would also reflect the level of thought given to it i,e the paper forms. It's there if required, but it's not really a biggie for FD.

I'm a FD customer and tbh, they're great. They are quite picky about who they accept.

Could be worse M&S approved me but I'm here waiting on a card, signed and returned signature form & received a info T&C pack weeks later, no card. In fact Tues I will call them

HSBC really must keep the M&S dept in Hong Kong and Shanghai with 1 staff per office, typical Banking Corporation

I luv yoo long time Mr Diamond, I sent yoo car in post right now! :-*

Another post that has nothing to do with the OP.

    HSBC Group UK:

    HSBC UK

    M&S Bank UK

    First Direct UK

People are complaining about all 3 and they way they are handling things. I chimed in with the draconian way a online application is being dealt with by a division of the UK group.
SO... now England its the Scots turn to say dont leave the UK, stay in Europe with us in the UK, dont let the tories fool you like they did us with empty lies... You will be leaving the UK aswell as Europe ;)

This post is about First Direct. Not HSBC or M & S. Why do you think it's draconian ? If the procedure is for a paper form to be returned then thats how it is. This wasn't an online application I'm sure if the OP called them they'd be happy to help.

HSBC Group has well documented on here policies and applications and the like that are just intrusive or below par of the norm.

Draconian is waiting weeks on a card when the average is 3-5 days after receiving the signed form back. Again it is noted on here by users M&S cannot do basic things like HSBC and 1stD do, its a draconian brand the three group companies.

If the OP wanted to call, I'm sure they would have.

Like myself, having online banking means I rarely have the need to call or go in branch because I am capable of my admin myself.

Perhaps charging pennies for branch and telephone use is a way forward and will prevail, just like calling pay as you go care, whereas if the fault lies with a/the company you are refunded the charges.

Tues M&S will be getting called asking what date did they issue my card, I have no idea of even my account number yet...even Tesco sent that the next day with a "sign here" slip, very draconian to open a account online and have no sort code, a/c number nor card weeks later, just a T&C bumf which without any of the above 3 is as useless as it is meaningless :rotfl:
