Nationwide FlexBasic overdraft fees -

I have just checked my credit file and come across a default from Nationwide from back in 2012 for the amount of £274.00. I used to have a Natiownide FlexBasic account and while off on Maternity leave I stopped using it then moved home (I forgot to inform them of the move but didn't think it mattered as I didn't use the account) It seems like I should have cared because apparently I forgot to cancel a DD! They tell me my account has no activity and was sitting £0.41 in credit, Then in October a DD from ebay was returned for the amount of £2.29..... for that they charges me £15.00 for an unpaid DD charge then for the next 13 months or so charged me £20.00 a month for being overdrawn!!!!!!!! I wasn't using the account and they could clearly see that but kept charging me and because I had moved home and was none the wiser I didn't know about it, if I had know at the time I would have paid the £15.00 charge and the £2.29 I was overdrawn by. So now im sitting with a default on credit file and an unpaid amount of £274.00!!! I find this very unfair as it sates on there website that a Flexbasic account doesn't get charges (the woman said they did charge back then) but I don't know how true this is....... I am reluctant to pay it as I don't believe its fair but either way im stuck with a default till 2018!!!!! so unfair over a returned DD of £2.29........... any suggestions or am I stuck

What are Nationwide prepared to do to help? You're at their mercy I'm afraid. Certainly with the account you now have this wouldn't be possible.0

yes I understand that and I hold my hands up and admit I completely forgot! between new baby and moving house I completely forgot (which is not excuse)0

They said they would offer a settlement amount, but I would still have the default and it would show as a reduced settlement rather then full balance cleared.........
Or pay the full amount and it will show as a settled default0 -
I would push (nicely) for a better settlement from them given this all relates to £1.88This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

Yes I think so too! It's crazy considering. Also I have also now realised that the default on my credit file is not even valid as you can get a default for a basic cash account...... Seems after 2 years of non activity they have "upgraded" the account to a current account..... Have put in a formal complaint and been thrown from piller to post today but will get back on it tomorrow0

I meant can't get a default against basic cash accounts0

The FlexBasic wasn't available in 2012 so you can't use its T&Cs. The account you probably had was called a Cashcard account.0
-
Yea exactly, It was a cash card account. The Flexbasic wasn't available until 1st Dec 2015!!! from that time the account had been inactive in in default for 3 years!!!0
