Dubai - where to stay - so much choice!

Really fancy a 5 day break in Dubai. There is so much choice and all of the hotels look amazing, I just don't know where to start.
We are looking to relax either on the beach or by the pool, somewhere with a half board deal. Not too fussed about shopping.
Can anyone recommend a reasonably priced hotel? Also, good package tour operators?
Many thanks

So why Dubai?
Very expensive to drink and seems the only pastime is shopping.

There is so much choice in Dubai you will really need to do a little bit of research first and narrow down your options. They all nearly have a beach or pool.Depending on when you are going free half board can often be had. There is a good forum on TAtravelover0

If you are willing to look outside Dubai itself, we stayed in RAK at the amazing Cove Rotana. Just a half hour drive to Dubai for a spot of sightseeing!

You'll never do that drive in half an hour!
Have to agree though if you don't want to see anything of Dubai RAK may suit you, and it's much cheaper than Dubai.travelover0 -
We had a 3 day break last May, found a deal through Voyage Prive, from memory is was around £1.5k for us both half board staying at The Fairmont, The Palm. we could have either breakfast & lunch, breakfast & dinner or lunch & dinner. Water was charged at the restaurants, around £3 for a local bottle so imagine how much any alcohol was!
We walked around the old part of Dubai at the creek, browsed the markets but mainly chilled out around the pool although it was scorching hot at over 40 degrees, so the heat might be a consideration for you.
Visitors can go in a desert safari, wadi bashing, visit Abu Dhabi, it's around an hour or so drive I believe, near enough for a full day out but I don't know what there is to see there as I've never been.
You can eat reasonably cheaply at restaurants that don't sell alcohol but otherwise, it's very expensive.0
