Wrong sofa delivered

Options
Hi hope someone can offer some advice here. In January we visited a major furniture retailer and sat and discussed a Chesterfield sofa and high wing backed chair with their salesman. We went in for a Chesterfield and discussed nothing else, didn't even look at other options. We sat at a desk with the salesman who entered all the info with regards our order into the computer to produce a 6 page order confirmation which we were hurriedly asked to tick and sign boxes on each page after a quick review. All seemed in order 1 large 3 seater sofa in correct leather with correct feet and chair to match.
9 weeks later we have taken delivery of a chair (correct) and a sofa (wrong one), correct leather, correct legs, correct size, totally different design. On checking our paperwork we signed for a Hartford however the one we thought we had ordered was a Newport. I advised to retailer we ordered and signed for the sofa we had spent an half an hour discussing, the name was irrelevant as we had not even looked at the name. It now transpires the Hartford is not even available in leather. The salesman keyed in the wrong product and we have received a special order. They have agreed to exchange now but at an extra cost of £380 to me. Is this correct, am I within my rights to demand a full exchange with no extra cost.
The sofa in January was on sale at £1695 down from £2265 and now the current price is back at £2265. The price for the Hartford in cloth is now 1335

How much have you paid for the sofa in your possession?

If you've paid less than the Newport you want (£380 less?) then you have to pay that.
  • Paid £1695 it was reduced from £2265 for Jan sales. The same is now on sale at £2265 and up till Sunday I think there was a 20% discount on that. Typical of all furniture retailers with continuous sales on.the Hartford which is what we have been supplied with does not have a shop price in leather as it is only advertised in cloth at £1335.
  • Did you pay the right price for the sofa you wanted? If so I don't see they can ask for the extra. If they under-charged for what you want then they can ask for the extra.

If they are being difficult and you don't have plans on the coming Bank Holiday Monday, a visit to store and loud conversation about the extra £400 they want because they messed up your order might see things sorted.

I agree that he probably paid what the sofa would have cost had the right one been ordered. I would just call them/go in and say look the price at the time was £1695 and that is what I paid, I would not have ordered it at the current price of £2265 (or £1695 + £380 which is what they seem to want)

However I disagree that the store only 'messed' up his order as I believe both has equal responsibility here. The store for putting the wrong sofa down and the OP for not catching it, I don't buy dropping 2grand and not even knowing the name of what you're buying.

Furniture Village? The Newport is several hundreds more expensive than the Hartford, more than £380 in the variations I checked. Sounds like they have been generous in trying to resolve your problem.

I don't get this. If your paperwork states a Hartford and that's what you received why were you charged for the other sofa? Are you sure you weren't charged £1335 as is expect the paperwork price to match.
  • The Newport is of the same range as the Hartford, New England. I knew I was buying a New England leather sofa 3 seat in smoke cal leather, what I didn't,t pick up on at the time was the model name, Newport as I only looked at that one. There wasn't another like it. The price I paid was the price for the Newport in the January sale. The Hartford was considerably cheaper in the sale. I have already googled it by date search. The paper work stated New England Hartford 3 seater sofa in smoke cal leather with the legs ordered. I never even noticed the name Hartford since everything else tied up. Had the price reflected the Hartford under a grand I would have queried it. I have now placed a complaint via Resolver from this site so hopefully I should get a reasonable response. In addition to all this they delivered 3 weeks early and would not wait until we were ready so we were forced to sell our old suite for a knock down price with only 3 days notice. We have no room for two suites.
