I've done my best: googled and then activated it in my Sky account as advised.
However, I am no wiser how to sent it actually.

The only icons I have in my Skype window at the bottom are:
  • Send image
  • Send file
  • Send video message (I don't see any option to switch the camera off)
  • Send contacts

This feature will only work if the person you are calling has set up their voicemail.

Thanks, I'll check this, but it's strange that none of my contacts has it set up.
Even more odd is that this isn't needed for a video message.

Well, my wife enabled it in her Skype account, and nothing changed in my Skype window.

Even if I call her and she doesn't answer, the only option I have is "Send video message" under "16:35 Call to *** ***, no answer." in the history.

    Any other ideas or suggestions?

    I hate Microsoft.
  • Why dont you try recoding your message using your native PC recording app. and use the send file function to send it up.seems skype dont have the function that you are looking for.

Why? - Because I want to do this naturally, not !!!-backwards.

In fact, I don't need this. My friend that is far less computer-literate than I am, asked me to help her. She keeps receiving voice messages, but can't send them. How wrong I was when I thought it would be simple!

She will laugh if I suggest her to "try recoding ... message using ...native PC recording app. and use the send file function". She will send either IM or a video message instead.
seems skype dont have the function that you are looking for.
They do offer this and I found out eventually how to do this:
    1. Voice messages have to be enabled in the online account https://secure.skype.com/account?page=voicemail (that I have done earlier).
    2. In addition, in the program/app "Receive unanswered calls as a voice message" tick box has to be ticked in Tools >> Options >> Calls >> Voice messages.
That's why I hate Microsoft. Was it that hard to do this in one place or, at least, write clear instructions in the Help section?
