Excellent! Firstly - don't worry about being paranoid or Ignorant. You would be ignorant if you didn't ask......the rest you explained by stating you owned a Honda - now why on earth would I suggest that eh? I owe you an explantion and It will make you giggle!

I have been in the trade for many years - cars reflect the physcology of the owner. Really! They do! Hondas are the cars you see always doing 10 miles less than the speed limit, pause at roundabouts until there is no other car in sight. Wait at junctions until the road is entirely clear and a car has not passed the junction in either direction for 30 seconds.

This is Why.......Honda drivers are not confident, they lack in self esteem - usually considerably. They find it hard to make decisions, and are often the submissive part of the relationship they are in. When decisions are made, which takes time - they may change their mind and back out - they need reassurance from others. They are just hesitant in everything they do - even though they are quite competent. They worry about appearance and what people think of them, They prefer others to take the helm in life and are happy to follow rather than lead - and when they do lead, they rely on another considerably for reassurance. They are creatures of habit and when they are routine in something will stick to it, Shops, cars, even places to visit will be regular haunts as they know what to expect and have no surprises. This is the reason they buy a Honda - they can rely on it, it is reliable, solid and always there. That is what an insecure person craves. Just one thing that is solid and routine, never surprises, not too exciting or noticeable to anyone else,

It is weird how many people get freaked out by that theory - but it is MOSTLY accurate (there are always exceptions)

Now you said it is a Honda - no point in what I say, You won't sleep until yhou have a third party check it out - so go ahead!!

Give them a chance to disconnect the engine management bulb and everything will be OK.

the comedy timing of that was perfect, made me chuckle.

OP I have always been a staunch support of consumer rights but I do think you may have overreacted slightly, it was not nice of the car chap to tell you things that weren't true but he's not a lawyer and people do things like that.
As stated the fault sounds minor, but check you are actually entitled to a refund, I can't recall seeing anything recently that would automatically give you right to a refund.
Nothing makes a purchase turn into a disaster quicker than people incorrectly quoting the law.

    Good luck

Do you actually believe any of that?

Or are you basing your opinion on being behind a couple of Hinda Jazz owners on Sunday at B&Q?

Nonsense. And no, I haven't got a Honda. I find people who claim knowledge or expertise based on being "in the trade" often have a lot to learn and are kidding themselves about their expertise.
  • To say Honda drivers all act the same is a cheap gag as ludicrous as Jeremy Clarksons gag on Top Gear that OAP Peugeot drivers cause ALL the accidents on UKs roads.. I m looking to get a Honda/Toyota purely because of the reliability reputations.

The curse of modern cars, so many sensors there's always one playing up.
I've had problems with one sensor for 3 years, every time I think it's fixed it comes back on.
Changing the world, one sarcastic comment at a time.

I know this is an attempt at humour but have you ever considered that "cars reflect the physcology(sic) of the owner"is not true,
it's just you hang with the wrong crowd and your advocacy of Honda encourages them in bad habits :D
