To be fair our situation has been complex and on the whole we've found Santander to be pretty helpful and reasonably quick. Normally we would have used a broker to bypass a lot of this, but we're in a fix and porting our existing loan and taking out a new one so it seemed easier to get a new product with Santander and look at it all again when our fix ends, rather than pay the exit fee.
A broker could have handled the port for you.

Sure, but my initial view was that it was straight-forward to deal with Santander direct, and avoid any miscommunication during the whole process because of our relatively complex situation. I was probably wrong, but also, my experience of mortgage brokers has been mixed. Some good, some not.

Future readers of this thread will be interested to see they do have an option which doesn't involve them in hours of phone calls when they want to port an existing Santander rate.

Sure, and they'll also see how people who don't use a broker get bashed by the numerous brokers who wander these threads.;)

I'm just astonished people put up with what lenders put them through these days.
