Application interview - Santander

Options
So we're booked in for our phone interview tomorrow. Was warned it would take 60-90 mins. Unfortunately I have only got about 75mins free for it now. I'm not keen on rearranging because I don't want to delay things. Does anyone know how long it really takes. Also, what possible could they need for this length of time? We've already been credit checked, had a full budget checklist done and sent in various documents.

Thanks

One can only assume its Santanders version of "advice" - perhaps they will want to explain the product and options fully to you. I honestly have no idea why it would take so long, it doesn't take that long for a fact find to be done or advice, and I imagine you've already given them most of the information needed.

great, thanks for the reply. I'm loathed to have to go through the full set of details again seeing as I've probably already spent about 6hrs on the phone with Santander. Especially because it raises the risk of something not being consistent and that being an issue (e.g. my credit card is paid off full each month, but right now it's got a balance on it due to work expenses, for example).

Our situation ended up quite complex (initially our application was via an appeal due to being done on the basis of my future income, and then we were gazumped and lost our purchase).

I'm hoping now I've started my job and our new house is within our initial affordability that it should be reasonably straight forward from now with the interview, get the product finalised and send it all off.

If it's like most lenders "follow-up" call it's to sell you protection products.

I had a client go direct to Santander for an interest only mortgage, she said they read through a long Interest Only disclaimer 3 times in a single interview.

I think it will be product sales, !!!! covering, and a tiny bit of relevant info.

  • I did a simple remortgage with Nationwide and the main phone call, no advice may all the legal stuff being read etc, was close to 90 minutes. Of listening, not doing much talking, as they already had the facts, just needed to say "Yes", "no" and "I understand" at the appropriate times, and try not to fall asleep.

  • just the 70 minutes. some things were helpful but on the whole it was a pretty painful experience. Fortunately they had quite a lot to hand so it wasn't pure repetition.

Over seven hours on the telephone now.

    How can they justify this?

That is almost an entire working day.

To be fair our situation has been complex and on the whole we've found Santander to be pretty helpful and reasonably quick. Normally we would have used a broker to bypass a lot of this, but we're in a fix and porting our existing loan and taking out a new one so it seemed easier to get a new product with Santander and look at it all again when our fix ends, rather than pay the exit fee.

Wait, you would have used a broker, but you didn't as you didn't want to pay the exit fees on your current mortgage?
