Yes this site has changed me well and truly, I had my LBM in May last year owing 21k, i've managed to knock 7k off so far and thank to pay rises I am hopeful that I will be debt free by December 2008, as I am now overpaying massively to shift everything.
If I had not watched Martin on TV and checked out his site I am sure my debt would have probably doubled if not worse.
MSE rocks!
CC debt at 8/7/13 - £12,186.17
Barclaycard £11,027.58
Halifax £1,158.59
5 year plan to live unsecured debt free and move home0 -
I think it has been an inspiration and motivator for change in my spending and more openness about financial matters in family life. It is definitely a force for good and a positive social movement.
On the downside as a relatively recent convert I am a bit obsessed with MSE/DFW at the moment and spend too much time looking at the boards, when I should be doing other things. I must stop though as I can see myself classifying it as my religion on the next National Census.0 -
Can't begin to tell you how much this site changed my life.
Jul 06 I was 25k in debt. Now I'm 28k in the black!!!!
I changed every aspect of my lifestyle and worked bloody hard to clear the debt.
I am now careful about whatever I buy. If I want something I shop around until I've squeezed every penny of savings out of it by comparing prices and then adding a sneaky £10 off voucher or a backhand 6% on Quidco. I enjoy the 'thrill' of looking round for the best bargains.
I still have little 'splurges' - I had one last month. But I realised what I was doing and stopped before I went too mad."Stay Wonky":D

Hi there
I'm usually lurking and reading posts but couldn't resist joining in this one. This site hasn't changed my life at the moment but it has certainly helped me take the first (baby) steps to becoming debt free. Thanks to reading this site I try to shop around for the best deals and make full use of cashback sites. At the moment I'm in the red every month and I'm just trying to summon up the courage to actually put my SOA on the site. Even without doing that I've got a bit more of an idea about what not to spend. Actually, can I just take this opportunity to thank the people who post on here and provide support and information and have been such an inspiration to me even though I haven't made the SOA leap yet.
Oh, and happy birthday Snaggles xxxLet's start again (really need a kick up the bum now) :wall:Virgin CC £9793.710 -
Well, to be honest, I paid off the debt by early May but at the end of May I got a large redundancy and compensation payment which is the 'in the black' bit.
I took on a second job and worked every evening and every weekend (this has now become my full time job). I got about 6k back in bank charges and about 4k in back pay last November which put an enormous dent in the figure.
The rest was down to being very frugal day in day out, putting just about every MSE mantra into practice and using this board religiously (day in day out!!!!)"Stay Wonky":D
