Has 'moneysaving' genuinely changed anyone's life here?

  • Yes it was partly lack of knowledge with me, and partly not having the self discipline to draw up a proper budget.

But it honestly never occurred to me that having a detailed budget was something you were supposed to do! I thought people who stayed out of debt just earnt more money than me (d'uh).

It hasn't changed my life drastically yet, but I believe it will. I feel much more empowered now, and very hopeful about the future, whereas before I just felt swept along and out of control.

This site has opened my eyes to a few things; how I was wasting money and how to make more. It even led to me appearing on tv. I'm so glad I found it.

Has it changed my life? Dunno - because I don't know what I'd be doing now if I hadn't found it...but I doubt I'd have an offset mortgage, 7 0% credit cards, a Betfair account and a mortgage Pig. I'm pretty sure that I'd be drinking £150 worth of alcohol every month as well!

Once I really knuckled down to debt elimination this site and financial literacy it has made a major difference to my life.

Thanks to this site I realised that I was spending more money on poker than was healthy especially since I already had debts. this lead me to realise that I have a gambling problem that I have now sought help on, and am receiving with the help of the members of Gamblers Anonymous.

This in turn has lead to a total change in my lifestyle as without knowing it I had turned into "johnny no mates". I now have my life back and am making great strides in my work efforts and now have the ambition to own my own business. Financially my family have been in debt of some sort or the other for three generations and it was always said that we were poor and debt was just a way of life. well I can tell you that idea was a load of old rubbish and since finding this site over 3 years ago I have had a total change in my thoughts of how I want to live my life and if I have my own family to raise my future kids.

I don't mean to sound over dramatic but this site has given me so much ambition it is incredible. I could never repay the kindness and inspiration that have been given to me by strangers who don't realise what an impact they have had on my life and in turn my family. As I already said my Grandfather, Mother and us Kids have been in debt so long we classed it normal.

I now know that if I continue how I am doing I will be debt free in 4-5 years and mortgage Free in another 10 Years

So to sum up Money saving can and does change life's as my family are living proof. Now I have had the education it will mean now more being poor for family and with the grace of a greater power and eduction the next 10 generations of my family will have money and happiness in abundance. :T

Money saving and budgeting has changed our lives.
4 years our debt hit £34k before my husband admitted he had a spending problem which was out of control.
Getting our debt sorted out was very tough and we did a DMP. When we first started it I think we had £10 a month each to spend on whatever we wanted; that was all we had to spare and that is even more than some have now.
But if you think that back then my husband went from getting a loan for £4k and spending it within a fortnight (mostly on DVDs, stereo equipment and other electrical stuff) to surviving on £10 a month for a year with minimal rises each year thereafter, I would have to say that it most definitely changed his life positively and permanently.
He used to go and get smaller loans from shopacheck and pay back extortionate rates of interest; now he won't buy a dvd from a shop if he can get it cheaper online and this a man who wouldn't walk across a shopping centre to get £3-4 on a CD!
The freedom and choice that comes from not having debt is indescribable. We still have some of that debt left (approx 4k) but my father paid off our DMP so we could get a mortgage and now we're paying him back each month instead of payplan. We're also saving and fixing our house up and we're now on the right track. We'll never get credit cards or loans again and we both refuse to even upgrade to a switch account as they let you go overdrawn if you want to.
We couldn't have done any of it without this website, it changed our lives and gave me hope.

I think you are such an inspiration and it goes to show how much you can change attitude. I only had my LBM last week but already I am in the frame of mind "do I really need that" before I reach for my purse. I have half your starting debt but intend to be debt free in 45 mins (that is my snowball DFD but I want to bring that down by a year!).
Second and final LBM 01/01/11 Nearly got there but fell of wagon. HAVE to do it this time
  • Sorry , meant to put debt free in 45 months ....... if only I could be debt free in 45 mins!!:o

That would have been quick progress:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:
Get working at it and those 45 months will soon be less,.
Good luck, every little helps with snowballing the debts

This site actually gave me the confidence to believe I could have a baby without sliding back into debt - thanks to some amazing support on here, we managed it, and we are still just about coping despite my hubby recently getting made redundant and having to find a new job.

I've also made some fantastic friends, some of whom are now becoming 'real' friends (ie socialising in real life). And the recent support I've had when I found out my son might have Aspergers syndrome has been unbelievable, and has brought tears to my eyes on more than one occasion.

I'm not sure about the moneysaving changing my life, but the people I have met on here have CERTAINLY changed my life. :T :T :T
