Faulty Mattress

Hi please advise, we have just received a new mattress purchased from groupon. The mattress came rolled up in tight polythene and after unpacking the mattress we have found it to be of very poor quality and we are totally unsatisfied with it, the sides have no support and the springs are next to useless, However we have been told by groupon that because we have opened the polythene we cannot return it because of hygiene, we have explained that it as not been slept on and only pushed down with our hands.
If this is the case then what about the people who packed it etc, you cannot tell me it is done in a sterile environment, further more it was not made clear to us not to unpack it on the polythene. It all seems a little crazy (if you try on a pair of shoes without socks and they do not fit, are you made to purchase them?)

Faulty is return to seller under the law.
But you are saying its poor quality and you don't like it .
  • Hi thanks for your reply and I do see where your coming from, but if the mattress had arrived unrolled and not rolled and vacuum packed I would have been able to tell straight away that the mattress was unsuitable without unpacking it, I have also noticed that the design is different from the picture in the advert and it is certainly not how it is described.
To be honest I feel totally ripped off and I would not let my dog sleep on this (Cool Blue Memory Bonnell Mattress) it is really that bad.
I will pursue this matter and keep you posted.

It does say this on the ad
    "Mattresses & Bedding

For hygiene reasons we cannot accept returns on any opened mattresses or bedding. Bedding items include duvets, pillows, mattress toppers etc."

It's more than likely the wrong mattress, if it was vacuum packed, it has no springs, it will be 100% foam.

The Amazon listing also states it is vacuum packed and reviews confirm it has springs (albeit poor ones).

OP what did you expect from a £75 mattress?

Our latest mattress recently purchased was delivered vacuum packed and definitely does have springs.

If it came rolled (as the OP says), I don't see how they can say on Amazon "we would like to advise customers to try the mattress on the bed with the packaging still on", so it sounds to me like a foam mattress was wrongly supplied.
  • My wife purchased this mattress in haste for our teenage son, and we paid £104.99 and if you consider it is normally priced at £299.99 and the description makes it sound fantastic she thought it was a great deal.
She also could not find a link for any reviews on the mattress.
It is probably a lesson for us to be more careful when ordering on-line however at present Groupon have offered us a full refund (we will keep you posted) and our message to others is DO NOT PURCHASE A ROLLED VACUUM PACKED MATTRESS WITHOUT CHECKING REVIEWS ON OTHER SITES.
    Thank you for your reply's

Great news. It appears that the photo they show looks like proper sprung mattress. In reality that's not what you got so some bending of the truth there. I did find reviews easily , pretty much some saying exactly what you found. Never take ANY notice of rrp.

If you could 'roll' a sprung mattress, then it would never unroll again to a state where it could be slept on.
