They've offered the full market value for our house,

Doesn't mean that they'll sell it for this value.

Thrugelmir - Ah I see what you're saying. Yeah, selling it ourselves might put us in a better position. It's a good idea.

It's so hard not to just cave in and pay the full asking price! Unfortunately I think it would stretch us just a bit too much!

Actually, the opposite might be true. Getting full asking price for your house, without any quibbles over survey results, would be seen as a positive by many.

You need to look at the deal as a whole. Certainly saves a lot of hassle.

Update: The developers have called twice this week. We missed both calls, but this morning they left a voice mail offering 7k off the asking price, plus carpets throughout which was previously priced at 3k. We've actually found somewhere else in the meantime so we're not going for it but I thought it was worth posting for anyone else looking at buying a new build!

Must feel satisfying to say thanks but no thanks! Lesson to the builder there, if they had offered you that sooner I presume they would have had a sale. Glad you've found somewhere :D

Did you give your details to the mortgage advisor who is part of the builder?

if you did that is your mistake, they will know how much you can afford

Csgohan4 -We refused to be credit checked (which they initially told us was essential) but we did give some details to the mortgage broker, we didn't realise until later that they were working together lol.

And LittleMax - Yeah, it was very satisfying! :D
