Food - £200 - think £25 per week for food is unrealistic unless you want to live on pasta.

    £25pw unrealistic for food ?
There are numerous threads on here where posters live on half of that.

Why are you going out to buy a sandwich ?
You can make much nicer ones at home.

I wouldn't spend half my net income on rent (+CT separate) unless it was planned and I had that rent money sitting on an account especially If you are planning to even get a second job so not staying home a lot!

Why live alone rather than sharing? Would you be able to support this lifestyle if you were out of work for a month?

I think when choosing whether to share or pay a bit extra and have your own place depends on your age.
Shareing may have been ok when i was in my 20s and first left home. But i'm 62 now. I couldn't put up with it.

I agree I am 63 and need my own space, but I was the same in my 20's too, so each to their own.

I like my space too but I am aware of the cost. If I lived month to month (maybe OP has a trust fund) I would feel very uncomfortable spending more than half my net income on accommodation because if anything happened I would be on the street and I would not like that at all.

It's more about what someone can afford and how comfortable with risk. .

I agree with the above and would suggest you always have at least 6 months living costs on one side....in case.

But if you care about your health and want to eat freshly prepared meals with lots of fresh fruit and veg and occasional meat then I'd say £25 is not enough.

Of course it is, as long as you shop sensibly. I feed 2 of us on £30 per week, and that's with plenty of lovely fresh veg, and fresh meat for OH (I'm vegetarian), and treats for both of us. That's a combination of Lidl and Tesco, and includes most household stuff as well, like laundry powder etc.

I used to feed myself on £10-15 a week when I was living on my own. All home-cooked (a lot bulk), and I ate like a bloody king. That wasn't bargain-hunting, either; that was once a week off to Asda.

When my other half moved in it went from about £50 a month to £150-200 a month; not sure what happened there.
