I set up this backup using chrome and it continued uploading for a few days! A report this morning said there were 11,475 photos backed up and 11,475 photos remaining.
The wifi performance on task manager showed constants uploading.
I went onto Uninstall a program and uninstalled Google Photos Backup. It worked, no more uploading.
How can google be contacted about this?

i would have left it for a couple more days as the initial process of uploading all images can take longer
i would reinstall and try again before attempting to contact google
when you 'view uploaded photos' were your photos there?"The Holy Writ of Gloucester Rugby Club demands: first, that the forwards shall win the ball; second, that the forwards shall keep the ball; and third, the backs shall buy the beer." - Doug Ibbotson0 -
I don't know how big your photos are, but let's say they're 3MB each (on average). For 11,475 photos, that's 33.6GB in total, or 275,251Mb.
At 0.7Mb/s average upload speed, that will take 393,216s to upload. Or about four-and-a-half days.
Unless you have a contract with Google, I doubt they will be particularly interested, however.0 -
Thanks for taking the time to reply, it just seemed to have been going on for ages and was worried about excess use of the Talktalk allowance for internet useage.
Google allow free storeage of your photos if they are stored at a reasonable size, they do downsize them. I have just tested the downsizing on a 7.88mb photo, when I downloaded it from google store it had been reduced to 3.01mb. Plenty big enough for what I want. The 1.00mb stay more or less the same as far as I can see.
I had no idea how many photos I have stored on my PC, I have just checked "My pictures" and am astounded to see just over 19,500 files using 38.5 GB.
As you kindly suggested I will run it again and see what happens.
Thanks

Different ISPs calculate your Internet allowance differently. Some include uploaded data, while others only count your downloaded data. So it may be that uploading photos isn't using up your allowance, but check first if it might be a problem.Google allow free storeage of your photos if they are stored at a reasonable size, they do downsize them...

Whoa! That is going to take quite a while. Upload speeds on are usually a fraction of download speeds.
And even if Google reduce their size, I imagine that you are still uploading the full-size images before they can be reduced on Google's side.
Good luck! Hope it works eventually! :-)0 -
Thanks all of you, back to it uploading 800 to 950 kbps. When it started I was advised that there were 2517 to backup.

i would look at upgrading to unlimited data just for piece of mind"The Holy Writ of Gloucester Rugby Club demands: first, that the forwards shall win the ball; second, that the forwards shall keep the ball; and third, the backs shall buy the beer." - Doug Ibbotson0 -
This morning there were 144 remaining, at lunch time it is back up to 11,023. I did find a feedback on google photos and have given mine.
I am deleting the programme now.
Thanks,
