O/S Daily Thread for Sunday 20 March 2016

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

Morning everyone

Hugs to those that need/want them x

Happy Birthday to those with a birthday x

Now light, wet underfoot and dull, dreich, and drizzly, looks set in for the day.

Dinner last night was veg fried rice, noodles, chicken in black bean sauce and sides of prawn toast, dumplings and pancake rolls, all eaten and enjoyed. Today lunch is going to be roast pork, roasties, mash, cauli/broc cheese, carrots, asparagus, peas, yorkshires and gravy.

We were reasonably productive yesterday, we got the jobs done we wanted and went to see ill person, pleased we went.

Today I'll be prepping lunch, once that's sorted and meat is cooking, I'll organise pack ups, make sure everyone has uniforms etc for tomorro, then I'm chilling for the rest of the day.

Have peaceful Sundays' eveyone x

Keep safe and well x

  • Morning all. A dull start here and not forecast to improve. Oh well at least it's dry! The SK bedding to wash today so I guess, once again, it will be drying indoors!

My thoughts are with GERS this morning. Such a sad time and the family so far away.

Yesterday was bloomin' hard work as expected. The awning wouldn't co-operate and we struggled for ages to get the roof section taut. And it was so cold too out in the open all day. My sensible BS eating fell by the wayside well and truly! My healthy bag of food didn't fill me and I resorted to scavenging on the sandwiches and buns left by the menfolk!! Oh dear, must try harder!

We are not going over to the site today but this afternoon will be devoted to bringing all the stored caravan stuff down from the loft and packing the car to the gunnels with fridge/freezer, the said bags of bedding, towels, curtains, caravan clothes etc. and will go over again tomorrow. DD is working but plans a trip over Tuesday with all her stuff! I will probably go with her and MR TA can have a break. I worry about him trying to do too much the way he is.

I have some gammon steaks out defrosting so that will be lunch. Mine with lots of veg and Mr TA can have baby potatoes, egg and mushrooms with his. For breakfast I am trying poached egg on avocado slices from the BSD book. Sounds an unlikely combination but GERS says she likes it so will give it a go!

Have a good day all (((HUGS))) to all those wanting/needing them. ELONA it's good to hear you are making progress in your new home and liking the neighbourhood. It's been a big step for you to take. xx

Gers - So sorry, what a terrible shock. My thoughts are with you and your family.

Thanks for all the birthday wishes, had a lovely day meeting up with friends and then DD took me for a lovely mexican meal in Glasgow. I stayed at hers and we went to a 'Free From' show at the exhibition centre - lots of tasters, some really nice and some not so! We walked back into town and then got the train back.

Today I am doing the Sport Relief Mile with a neighbour I met last week at other neighbour's party (did it on Friday too with school), it's a lovely sunny day so should be good fun. Everyone has been really generous with sponsorship, hope I don't let them down!

Washing doing its stuff, did more last night so will put that out in a minute, can't believe the good weather at the moment.

Hope you all have a lovely Sunday, take care. XX

    Hi everyone,

I'm up early for a change, we went out for a meal last night with all the kids and I ate to much so I got up because I felt uncomfortable. It was a lovely meal but it was an all in price and they brought nibbles, pre-starters, three courses, a large sorbet and then petit fours and because it was all-in I tried it all.

I shall probably need a nap later on and will be cooking roast lamb for this evening, because it will be our Easter meal. DD and her DH are off on their delayed honeymoon to Ecuador and Peru on Thursday.

Gers, I hope you manage to get some of the details sorted out for your journey.

    Hugs to Gers

Cold here again today, I hope it warms up by the time we go on our happy hols!

DGS's uniform is washed and mainly dry, I'll hang it on hangers later ready to take round tomorrow.

We have roast lamb for lunch, I bought the Co-op £10 deal, we like lamb.

Hubby will watch the GP when he gets up I shall potter around doing some housework and trying to get the Critical Update downloaded onto our Kindles, it's currently proving reluctant to download.

    Have a good day everyone.

  • Good morning all,

Thank you nmic for starting us off.

GERS sending love to you and your family and thinking of you all.

We are going to the Crem this morning, tomorrow will be the 10th anniversary of my Mum's death. She died on DGD1s 13th birthday, and after she died I told her it was very bad timing. DGD1 was her very first great grandchild and she loved her dearly.

TA the avocado and poached egg is lovely, I would never have thought of that combination. It sounds as though you had a hard day yesterday so pace yourselves today.

Not a lot planned for today, Himself didn't sleep again, I shall be so relieved when Tuesday is here and he sees the GP, I just hope he is truthful with him and tells him everything.

    Have a good day all

  • Morning ((((((((((hugs)))))))))) if you need one, especially Gers, take care.

Usual Sunday breakfast in bed, will be getting up shortly, guess OH will be in the garden. The plants I bought from Morrison need potting on for a few months to get just a bit bigger.

The garden is showing signs of life, we have 4 rhubarb crowns showing growth, I plan to force one crown for som early fruit, need to find the old black bucket.

I steam cleaned the kitchen floor yesterday it was really mucky. The toilet and bathroom floor was fine. Was going to do a bit more quilting after lunch yesterday got bamboozled into watching the rugby.

Time to get up and do something for my living, have a good day folks.

    Morning everyone,

Latish start for me as DOH and SS went off early to the football so fed and let the girls out, will take them for a long walk after breakfast and the Archers.

Yesterday was so enjoyable, the play was very funny and despite slight hiccup at one point when Martin Shaw's Lancashire accent slipped into a Scottish one we had a grand time. Dropped Mum off at brothers and then home for evening with the boys, they picked up the Chinese on the way and manged to demolish most of it. The leftovers went back with the eldest for his breakfast this morning apparently :rotfl: he's a student so understandable.
Lovely quiet day for me ahead, will just poodle around and sort few bits out, clothes for the CS etc. Will go and see my boy this afternoon, the sun is out at the moment so hopefully will have a fine day.

Hugs to Gers and Candlelight x

    Morning all,

Cold but bright here again and blowy, its been great for drying clothes this weekend, I have a towel load in the wm which will be hung out.

Evie got a clean bill of health from the vets her jab are all up to date she just had to have the kennel cough drops up the nose, her chip has been re-registered to us too, so she is officially ours :j

Got a nice shoulder of lamb reduced to £4 yesterday, which I will cook up with the tiny bit of beef I already have, this should then do us today and tomorrow for dinner and maybe some leftovers. Might see if mum wants to come round for dinner too.

Going to have a shower in a while then prep the dinner and tidy through downstairs, OH can do upstairs, then take Evie to the beach for her run, this afternoon will be resting / watching a film on the sofa.

Hugs to Gers, thinking of you xx

GERS I have just read through yesterdays posts and send my condolences to you and your family How dreadful to be taken at such a young age Life is so unfair at times My thoughts are with you my dear

Today the weather seems to be a tad milder I managed to get all the ironing done yesterday, so today I have just a vat of soup to make for lunches this week (carrot and coriander ) and the menu plan for the week.I peeled the carrots last night while watching TV.

Finished off the last three episodes of Happy Valley, Sarah Lancashire is such a good actress isn't she,in fact the whole series was well written and acted I really hope there is a third one.

Busy week ahead Medway healthy living walk tomorrow morning then and appoinmet to see the bank about changing my savings accounts around.I also have a prescription to pick up from the Drs all things in opposite directions , oh and some library books to go back :) I shall be running round in circles I think.

Tuesday morning I am going with DGS Ben to the cinema at 11 we are going to see Spotlight. He is my 'fim buddy' and we both enjoy a good movie I have a CEA card which means I get his ticket for free as he is my 'carer' :):):) just as well as he is a stoney broke student :):)

Wednesday morning I have my sociology class and Thursday my gardener comes ,so I will make sure there are sufficient scones to go with his half time cuppa :)

Then its the holiday weekend ,not too sure yet what I'm up to but hopefully the weather will brighten up and I can out out with the family. The weeks seem to whizz by just lately I am glad I got all my shopping for the rest of the month yesterday, I hate it when the shops are full of people all pushing and shoving I like it best when its quieter.

Right time for a pot of coffee I think and menu planning
Have a good day everyone what ever you are doing
    Cheers JackieO xx
