I'll be doing around 13K mileage annually, what'll be more economical petrol or diesel?

Diesel will give more mpg and resale value will probably be higher as mileage racks up. Insignia are a great buy used, 1st keeper takes the big hit on depreciation and loads to choose from.Mr Generous - Landlord for more than 10 years. Generous? - Possibly but sarcastic more likely.0

Diesel if your talking about fuel only.
If its not under the manufacturers warranty and a few years old then that diesel may have some large bills just waiting to surprise you.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -

It's an 11 plate0 -
So it will be approx 5 years old and pot luck.
Flip a coin.
Heads, the best economy wins (Diesel)
Tails, the lower risk of large bills (Petrol)
How much is a clutch and flywheel £800 ish? The extra torque from a diesel engine will wear a dual mass flywheel faster, they last much longer on a petrol car.
For my mostly short journeys a diesel is the worst choice, but when i tow stuff the diesel is so much better and the economy improvement made it a worthwhile risk for me, but my car cost less than £2000, and i can do a lot of the work myself. Well age had crept up so although i have the tools i now pass the bigger jobs on.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -

The standard petrol Insignia is a 1.8i petrol, the two litre, from memory is rare and turbocharged.
If you meant the 1.8 then avoid as its slug slow. If you meant the 2.0i Turbo then the 2.0 turbodiesel will be more economical.0 -
Automatic diesels don't typically give great economy.
On a 5 yr old Insignia I would buy petrol.
Less likely to have been used as a Minicab for a start.
Also more likely that the first owner was a private motorist.
Road tax will be higher, fuel consumption higher aswell but less to go wrong.
I had a Legacy Auto for four years and got low 30's to the gallon. I doubt than Insignia will be much worse.
A turbo diesel Insignia auto will likely give high 30's low 40's.
The extra fuel is worth paying for imho as you will not have any DPF issues and if you really wanted to reduce fuel costs you could investigate a possible conversion to LPG.0 -

If you check the title the OP wants an Auto.0 -
Diesel pays less road tax, has better MPG, better resale value too0

Diesel auto then Mercedes own that one with BMW not far behind.
Older car for the money but it will still be clocking up the hundreds of thousands when the vauxhall is in the scrap yard.I do Contracts, all day every day.0
