    We have gone with diagonal, it looks very good. If doing it ensure the bit going into the hallway wall comes out in the living room.

    That's the way I'd like to do it, but I'm afraid it's going to make the living room look smaller. It would also mean the boards run perpendicular to the subfloor ensuring a more stable finish
