How to beat Aviva renewal prices

How to beat Aviva at their own devious game.
Don't auto renew. Don't get a new quote. Don't trust them.
My auto renewal for two cars came out at about £1,400, twice last years.
I tried a new quote and it came out at about £1,000.
By accident I tried a quote withe wrong date of birth it came out at about £700.
I tried a new quote with my date of birth one day earlier - about £700.
I tried a new quote with my date of birth one day later - about £700.
Conclusion:
They're out to rip off existing customers at the expense of new.
Their computer system uses name, post code and date of birth to identify that they can screw you.
Solution:
Get a new quote with your date of birth one day out. Web site thinks you're a newbie.
Phone in to accept but ask them to change your date of birth.
Once they've changed your date of birth and confirmed the price hasn't changed, go and pay online. They charge £20 extra to pay over the phone.
Or better still - Go to a different provider. Sadly they're all at it.
Report them to Financial Services Ombudsmen and trading standards.

Surely if you 'go back and buy it online' it will have the incorrect DOB...0

Most companies treat new customers better at the expense of existing customers. It is your responsibility to contact them and negotiate a better deal or go elsewhere. I think it is harsh to say that they are "screwing" you.0 -
My two pennorth...received a renewal notice for home insurance [B & C] for around £290 from Direct Line. Normally pay up without bothering too much as it includes bike insurance [and travel insurance until we got to the age point] which a lot of others don.t. So...went to Compare the Market, and found the starting point was around £180. Our of interest I did a similar test to the op - went back to DL site, tried again with d of b one month out. Result: £162.16!
Rang DL, initially given a lot of verbals to justify price difference. Then they agreed to bring new price in. Except...when they retrieved saved quote and changed dob, price changed to £254!
Again, tried to persuade me that difference due to difference in age [??!!] Eventually agreed to differ - as op says, once your details are on file it seems impossible to go back and get a redeemable quote as new user. So, seems I will have to go elsewhere for a year, hope the bikes don't get nicked, then go back to DL as new customer.
And I used to think companies wanted to keep customers rather than encouraging 'churn'...0 -

Your post says it's impossible to get a new quote as a new customer... but did you actually try doing a DL quote with your actual DOB to see what that came out as.....your post doesn't suggest you even tried that.
Or try putting someone else as the policyholder, then yourself as the joint policy holder.0
