Gen-3 Glasscoat - worth the money or not?

Buying a new car at a cost of £18,500 and they are offering a Gen-3 Glasscoat with it for £249. Is this a good price? Can I get it elsewhere for cheaper? Should I even bother?!

    I'd suggest you don't bother.

New car salesmen these days try to sell you all sorts of things - they want to get back some of the margin you've negotiated away. I've recently had the hard sell for some sort of paint protection, plus several different insurances (GAP, minor damage, alloy wheels, etc.). Even if you wanted them, you could invariably get them cheaper elsewhere.

The minor damage protection I was offered on a Merc would have been £299 for a year, almost as much as I pay for fully comp. insurance. I was quoted £110 on the internet

Quadraspaz paint protection, it's just a way of clawing back any "discount" the salesman gave you during the "bartering" process.

Depends how you want to look after the car.

As mentioned, these products are earners for the salesman and dealer, but will have benefit to adding some extra paint protection, but not really good value at £300ish.

If you enjoy cleaning your car, rather than seeing it as a chore to be avoided and are able to invest a little time and effort, similar, or better products are readily avialalbe.

All valeters and detailers will have preferred products, but if you spend a few minutes (or hours!!) check out what the folk in https://www.detailingworld.com get up to, with their pride n joy!

  • If you have a lot of free time and don't mind working up a bit of a sweat, spend half that amount on decent car care products and you'll get a better finish and protection. As above, get yourself onto Detailing World if you're interested.
