Why does my laptop (powered by an i5 3230M processor) - show 4 seperate devices in the device manager - when it only has 2 cores ?
ie What is the device manager actually showing - under "processors" ?
I assume - the number of cores - rather than "threads" ?

That processor supports hyperthreading which means each physical core shows up as two processors giving you four in total. It's not as fast as a native quad core processor but the hyperthreading can boost system performance over a dual core in certain conditions.
