application for remittance

Apologies in advance if this might not be the appropriate part of the forum for posting my question. However I could not find a more suitable section.
Has anyone had any experience of receiving money using the application for remittance abroad method ?
My query is a friend from india is sending me some money he owes me using the application for remittance. He has filled in the relevant forms. However nothing has been received. My google on the internet has now given me anything solid to go on.
How do I receive the money owed ? Is he suppose to send me document that I can take to the bank rather like a cheque ?
Thanks
Tom

Google says that 'remittance' is just a term used for some international transfers (typically from developed countries to developing countries though). If so, you have to provide him with your bank details for an international transfer and he has to send the money. You receive the money, not a document.0 -
A remittance is a term used to mean a transfer of funds.
India has some strict financial controls so maybe your friend needs to make an application to the authorities to be able to make the transfer. Perhaps this is what is being referred to.
You will not receive any money until he sends it. Have you provided him with your bank details?Evolution, not revolution0 -
I wonder if OP is thinking of a Western Union type of transaction.0
