Looking to Replace Two Cars

Hi
We're looking at replacing two cars we have in the family.
The first is a Ford Fiesta, Diesel, 06 plate. Bought for £4000 odd, now worth around £1500 on p/x.
It's just been a money hole since buying. It's in the garage every 3 months for something, the latest being around £500 to fix, with more issues to fix (power steering needs attention, needs new gearbox).
We're looking to buy an 09 plate new shape Ford Focus. Currently it's about £4400, which is about right according to WhatCar.
The second is a Ford Focus. Petrol, 56 plate, Ghia (so top model). Bought nearly 5 years ago for £5000 odd, now worth £1900 for p/x.
There's nothing particularly wrong with this car. It has a little bit of body work - the side door has a small dent in it, the rear wing also needs pushing out a little. We did have a quote of £1000 to fix
We're looking to buy a VW Passat, 59 plate, diesel, £5700 - again, about right according to WhatCar.
Both cars we're looking to buy are with the same dealer.
We have enough to buy both cars outright but want to put £3000 on a credit card to help one of us build a bit of credit, plus it'll be 0% for at least 24 months so makes sense to give us more cash flow.
I'd sort of expect to be able to haggle the Fiesta down to £4200, the Passat £5500 maybe, but didn't know if the dealer likely to give us any extra discount for buying two cars from them?
It would be great to get the Fiesta down to £4000, the Passat down to £5300 - I would be happy to pay that price.
It's a little complicated as we only have the Focus to show as p/x because the Fiesta is in the garage. However, even with the problems, I still think we'd get at least £1000 for it, so the new Fiesta would go on the credit card.
Is there anything I should push the dealer for?
We're not in a rush for the cars.

Not sure what you are after here, asking how much you can squeeze out of the dealer in the way of discount?
ps have you made a booboo in 10th paragraph, it say haggle the fiesta down, this reads earlier like you are considering buying a focus or a Passat?
pps any chance of a bit more detail on the cars you are looking to purchase for my own interest please?0 -
£1900 for a Focus on a 56 plate with £1000 of bodywork needed?
I think you better get that trade in quote in writing.
A non running Fiesta diesel is also not worth a lot, even a nice one would struggle to make £1500 on px, closer to to £1000 to be honest, with a gearbox issue then it's a spares or repair car so probably £400/500.
The Passat is also top money and is the older shape.
You could buy a facelift model for not much more and it would be two years newer.

Above is an example, Motorpoint will likely have Passats for around the same price/age/condition.
The dealer will be happy to sell you two cars, but they won't give you more money for a broken Fiesta and a Focus with panel damage.0 -

It's a 10 year old mass market car with dents in the door and rear wing - how did you arrive at your £1900 valuation?
The dealer is running a business - each stock item will have an element of profit - the fact that you're buying two cars won't change that fact... the dealer can only reduce the price so much.
There may be scope to get a reduction on extended warranties etc but that's only, again, up to the point where the trader can afford to do the deal and still make money.
Paying by credit card will probably attract a surcharge as well.
Used cars sales is a competitive market - there's not the huge wriggle room that some people imagine. Know the going rate and be prepared to pay it or walk away.:hello:0 -
I think both your part ex prices are optimistic unless the cars your buying are over priced. This time last year we got 2500 for a 08 fiesta tdci, under 50k, Technology and climate pack on 16's.0
