Water from light fitting

Our landlord came over to look at a wet patch on our ceiling that could have been a leak. From starting work on it he caused a worse leak in the next room and water started rushing through our pendant light fitting causing the lights to trip.
He's been reluctant to have a plumber or an electrician come round. Am I right in thinking the electrics should now be tested before I put another light bulb in?

Assuming the leak has stopped, if it was my house, it would wait for it to dry, replace the bulb and if it didn't trip the breakers then good to go.

However, a landlord has a duty of care with electrics, but doesn't need a certificate like with gas. So you are perfectly within your rights to ask him to get an electrician round to check it but there is no absolute requirement for him to do so.

If you're really worried and the landlords not playing ball you could always ask someone to check it for you. If they found it dangerous the landlord would have to put it right, but if they deemed it safe, you might end up paying for the check.

Ask the landlord to put the bulb in.
